Tuning picture issues with Mitsubishi 73 rear projection set?

I do not have cable. I do not watch much network TV other than NFL games. All three of my TV's are hooked up to roof top antennas. Other two TV's have no issues with picking up all local channels. 17 miles from satalite tower. My big 73" Mitsubishi always worked great for the five years since purchase. Probly used six to ten hours a week at the most. Even less in summer. Replaced antenna and all connectors and cable to try to resolve issue with picture pixelating or scrabbled at times? Is there a tuner that could be going bad? Even though I have a PJ now to install. I was planning on giving this to the kids gaming room. Awesome natural picture in movies and great nice big picture for football. As always, Any and all help would be much appreciated. D

All them running off the same antenna? If you are running them off a 3 wy splitter..one of the legs might be 3.5 down...if so,run that leg to the closest set...could be that leg on the splitter is bad too....just a thought....

Let me re phrase that...if you have an un balanced 3wy...run the low loss leg to your big screen....the 3.5 down one....

I have a dedicated cable and antenna to that set now. Same problem. Seems to come and go? Thanks. D

It very well could be the tuner having issues. If you have not done so, maybe try to perform a master reset then rescan all the channels. If the tuner is going bad these sets are really easy to work on IMO if you are the DIY hands on type. Parts still seem to be available and there are video's, manual, forum talk, etc all over the net.

I've pulled mine apart to clean all the fans. Next I plan on replacing all of them and the color wheel. The wheel is getting a little noisy...and maybe the fans also.

Some of the LED's out there are not that great picture wise. When I did a side by side years ago only the Pani plasma, Sharp AQUOS, and 84" LG had better pictures to my eyes. All were over $3G's at the time. When set up correct playing Blu-rays the Mitsu looks more filmlike to me than many LED's. Just the weekend the latest Transformers movie looked wonderful! To best or match the size and pic quality is now cheaper...but not cheap.

My next set will have to be at least a 70". Or I could do a 60"-65" for everyday and a pulldown projector for BR movies. I will do another year or so with the Mitsu then decide.

+1. The Mitsu putts out a very good picture for older technology. I’m still using mine. Some of the lower cost LED’s are not the greatest for picture quality. If he doesn’t have a HT Audio system for this TV, add a sound bar for a couple of hundred dollars more. The sound quality on many of these new TV’s isn’t the greatest and can't match the Mitsu. Plus add a new entertainment stand for the TV for a couple hundred more. If it’s a cheap fix do it or save your money and buy a nice new TV.
