McIntosh D100 Pre

Anyone here have one?? I got a peak at one in TN and think I'm going to get one. I read Ed Selly's (from Cambridge Audio) review and nothing but good things does he write. Just checking the forum to see if anyone else has thoughts on this pre. It was either that or the Cambridge 851D??

We do have someone here that owns one, and likes it a lot. Maybe they'll chime in.

I'm somewhat confused on your pre's, thought you had the Cambridge getting repaired ? The Mac is a pre/dac combo, try using it's dac too to see which you like better. It's a nice piece for sure, but I personally haven't heard that one yet.

Falconcry has one of these as well as another member who sold it and the buyer paid overnight shipping. These are sought after units and if you get one below $1800 you can sell it on for $2100 if your not happy with it.

I had the D100 and wasn't impressed. I felt my Wyred DAC2 DSD SE was clearly the better DAC. My other gear is McIntosh and I really wanted the D100 to be the winner in my shootout, but it wasn't.

Reviews are great, just thought we may of had a member that owned one of these and could comment, (I think that was my question) so I will just bide my time and place it on my wish list as I sure like what I am reading and pairing it up with the Stream Magic 6 should allow my amp and speakers to do their thing nicely. When it all comes together I will give my take on it!

If I'm not mistaken, this is for a bedroom system, yes ? Your PBN speakers, SM6...in the bedroom....correct ?

Maybe that Parasound integrated may be more of a fit. You'll get a decent pre and a dac with dsd capabilities and an amp section that I'm sure can drive the speakers to moderate listening levels if not higher. Could always add the Liberty amp to that anyway and forego the built in one.

Yes, all in the bedroom. Looking for something different than Parasound this time!

Doubt below 1800 will happen, at least on a new one with warranty, and I am now rethinking what it is I will end up with but I know it'll be nice!

Hearing from a member that has actually had the D100 was sure great. Enough to stop me in my tracks and look into the one you mentioned. The Wyred Dac2 DSD SE looks nice, just can't tell if you can plug a pair of headphones into it or not. I'm glad I am in no hurry! Thanks "Polkitup2"
