Tweeter Question

I posted a WTB for a SL3000 Tweeter because one of the tweets in my 2.3tl's is scratchy. A member named Smallies has come forward with one for 45 shipped which is not a bad price. However it got me wondering.

Since I plan to eventually replace all would it work ok to just replace one in each speaker with the polk replacements? If so, which one would be best or does it matter?

  • Sure, you could replace a pair at a time. The correct replacement for an SL3000 is the RDO-198. As a Club Polk member(mention this when ordering,) you'll get a discount and your price will be $48 each.

The RD-0198 is vastly superior to the SL3000. I replaced all mine at once in my 2.3TL's and the difference was easy to hear. Don't know the effect if you replaced one in each speaker, but I wouldn't spend any more money on SL3000's since you're gonna replace them anyway.

I agree. In the meantime Boston1450 offered me a pair for just shipping. I will pay these forward plus the other good ones when I get around to upgrading these speakers. I have just finished all of the work to my 1C's and they sound great.

Got your PM... Just got off phone with Gary (awesome Polk service BTW) now less than 100 RDO198's in stock. I have 2 on way.. QUESTION what is the best way to ship the tweets so the domes ''dont'' get pushed in ? Id like to ship them out asap OR wait for the boxes i got coming (next week) & ship them in those boxes-into another box. To make sure they make the trip good to you Sea. How much of a rush you in? I have no problem with the 15's down a few days. Let me know-i'll be back on later

Is to imply that after these 100 the RDO198's will not be available???????

Great gesture Boston. I shipped some SL3000's a while back and used the boxes my RD-0198's came in. They arrived in perfect condition.

Yes. I am sorry that I did not let you know, I have not had time to install yet. I actually had a minor fire at the plant that I mange this past week. Not much fire damage but as it always goes......more water damage. I hope to get them installed in the next day or two. Thank you again for the karma.

I just received a shipment - supposedly comprised of both RDO-094's & RDO-098's. There is no discernible markings on any of the boxes or the tweeters themselves, nor visual differences on the tweeters that I can discern. Is there an Ohm/impedance difference I can measure for... or how can I tell the difference between these tweets?

Very frustrated that Polk Audio made NO effort to label this shipment of (supposedly) mixed tweeters.

First guess: The size of the blades where the wires connect to the tweeter are different on the 098s compared to the 094s.

One has two identical-sized blades, one has a big and a little blade. I don't remember which is which.

RDO198's have different size blades you connect to
    EDIT-not sure on the RDO194's

I have both the 194 and 198 here and just checked them. The blades on the 194 are both the same size. On the 198, the positive blade is smaller than the negative.
