Pre Amp Temporarily Out Of The Picture! (sounding real good)

So, I am running the Cambridge Audio Stream Magic 6 connected to the amp and sounds real good. (my 840e is out for the moment) Question is: is the sound quality going to increase much when the pre is back in the picture?? I had no idea the Stream Magic would sound so good by itself?? I do understand that there are no tone options on the SM, but the thing seems to be set just right for now. If it gets any better with the pre hooked up when it comes back from the doctor, I may just keel over!!

Well IMHO it "should" but thats gonna be a call for your ears....
I am glad your liking the Stream Magic that much! Depending on when your pre was built it "might" have better parts, but I'd hope the pre makes it sound a bit better.
If not, then you just saved yourself a ton of cost, but I thought we'd been through this before and you didnt like how the Stream Magic sounded when connected direct, and you prefered it with the Onkyo pre in the mix...

Gotcha.....
If it was me, I'd try it both ways, if you can't tell a ton of differences between the two setups, sell the pre-amp and simplify your setup....
Just keep in mind having a remote, the ability to connect stuff like a TT and whatnot wont be as easy.
If your going to stay purely digital..... then the stream magic may just be it for you"....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963)

Thanks Dan, and I had it connected to my Parasound at that time. Through the Liberty B2B 100 amp, it's a whole new ballgame and a totally different sound. Really liking it. My pre went to the doctor because the right channel out wasn't working. Hopefully it can be fixed?? Only then will I really know if the sound will improve!"if it's not fun, it's not worth it & remember folks, "It's All About The Music"!!
