Saw the new LG 77inch OLED 4K TV

It looked incredible!
There is no good 4K demo material to run on it. It looked better just upscaling a good BluRay disc.
I will be getting an OLED after about three generation have gone by.
I will be waiting for no bugs, even bigger screen, much lower price.
These first gen models are frighteningly expensive.
The 77 inch was 25K! And they sold two while I was there.
But I figure that like all big screens they will drop in price as all the early adopters have got theirs and the prices drop as quantities go up.

At what point do all these media advancements become just plain old overkill?

$25k??? I was in the Crutchfield store with a friend recently, and if I recall correctly, they had 80"+ 4ks from Samsung, LG and Sony for $8k-10k. Still ridiculously priced, but less so. And I agree, the wow factor is pretty high the first time you see one in person.

And I personally don't think there's "overkill" in those 4K TVs. 3D had it's once every couple of decades fad here recently, but more resolution and better panels? Yes please.

I'm going to wait it out for the 4k ****....

Who has that kind of room for a 77"+ TV? Projection screens are one thing, an actual TV is another. And 25k to early adopt. Wow! For that kind of money I'll think about wall mounting my Subaru....

    I'm jealous........

Here's the 78" curved Samsung 4K for 8 grand. Still absurd, but at least it's not 25k absurd!

Remember, that I am only talking about the OLED technology as it had to do with picture quality in the 4K domain.
The OLED technology allow the screen to be in a daylight lit, sunny room and still produce a "wow factor" image. Plus it draws very little current compared to most current screens. It will be a few years until it becomes the dominant type of viewing screen. It may even factor into your decision on whether to go screen or projection.
Another "feature" is that the screen was much lighter than my two year old plasma and even lighter than the current LCD/LED sets. Those sets still rely on light transmitted through the LCD's by the LED behind them. They do not do well in a brightly lit room.

This is good news. Just yesterday I was reading an article about how movie theaters are scared of 4K technology since it erases the picture quality advantage movie theaters now enjoy. I know my HT sound surpassed theater audio years ago, and I am looking forward to improving the picture. Another factor bothering them is Netflix is releasing their Crouching Tiger sequel as 4K streaming, and no theater release.

Other than a giant screen, and the opportunity to scope out good looking women in the theater, there really is not much of a reason to go to the movies anymore.
