The Endless River

I just pre-ordered the new Pink Floyd album from Soundstage Direct.

Has anyone been following the news of this release?

No Roger Waters so I'm gonna pass. Not real fond of the band without him.

The cover art is a little different. Also, I thought I read only one track has vocals.

Also just bought the Division Bell and a better copy of my Wall.

I now have 10 of the 15 studio on vinyl...although my Meddle needs replaced.

Goal is to get all 15 in NM condition.

Nice! though i wish they would release "The Wall" in 5.1 SACD also! I have DSOTM & WYWH in the 5.1 SACD's and they are pretty sweet on the HT set up :)

  • I was lucky enough to see Waters in Atlanta a couple years ago. Best show I have ever been to.

Whats the best way to get quality sound from my desktop? Is it still not possible to get SACD on your pc?

1st you can rip your music into loss less formats like FLAC or ALAC etc... you can also buy & download HD music in higher rez.

then you can use a external DAC for your music so your sound card doesn't do the decoding. and it can be done as simple as add a "Dragonfly" that plugs into a USB port. check out this link

    http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=AQDRFLY2#.VCgOzBZ7M5g

but that leads to buying better speakers to really show off the sound Quality or what your now playing... or good headphones.

check out the section going digital and scan thru those threads as there are some great threads there - just takes some digging :)

oh I do not think you can rip you SACD's to disk, but there are many HD track sites like this one:

Just got back from deer camp picked it up at Best Buy in Brainerd Minnesota listened to it on the drive home great mood music they got a sh..load of snow around the St Cloud area nice drive home winter scenery and the new Floyd. I got the CD Blu Ray combo can't wait to hear it in 5.1 this weekend. I it sounds like an extension of Welcome To The Machine, Meddle, and Obscured By Clouds, and the More soundtrack, than it does The Division Bell. IMHO.

I don't care if your a Gilmour, or Waters guy, I like Water less Floyd, Solo Gilmour, solo Waters old Floyd with Syd, so I really enjoy this set nice old style Floyd, worth your hard earned dollars , for all you Floyd Fans. Hey Roger go F yourself (kidding) just wish you would of been a part of this.

I like both, loved Animals which was pure Waters & I really like its idea for a LP. But I really liked the last 3 without him also. and yes Gilmour's solo is very good stuff.

Thanks for the info on this Mike and all, appreciate all of your opinions on this cd. I'm guessing that the recording quality is top of the mark like most other PF albums? Definitely worth getting for any Pink Floyd fan.

Listened to the vinyl tonight for the first time. I think I need to listen to it with more volume. It is a lot of ambient music without a lot of gripping moments. I wan't expecting prime Floyd, but I think I need to listen a few more times to properly evaluate.

I heard some clips from it on (ahem) NPR a few days back -- it sounded perfectly pleasant...but also sounded perfectly like outtakes from Wish You Were Here.

FWIW (and not that my opinion or tastes have any particular legitimacy), I think I'll stick with Shine on You Crazy Diamond (which is pretty striking, affecting music).

The unfortunate thing about Pink Floyd, I'd opine (at this late date), is that "it" got hung up on two things -- Syd Barrett's drug-catalyzed psychic demise and Roger Waters' father's death (and the futility of war) and could just never get past them.

You succinctly described exactly why I could never get into "Amused to Death" by Waters....too much wallowing...

I pre-orderd from amazon, so I had it in hand on Monday. I haven't had a chance to really sit and listen to it for any length of time, but I like what I've listened to so far. Like Paul I need to listen a little more, but I would probably agree with his statement about "ambient music without a lot of gripping moments." Very good ambient music though ;) Also, the BR disc has phenomenal SQ in my opinion.

I have been listening to it on spotify to see if the material is worthy of getting the CD/BD combo.Only 1 vocal track???I love Gilmores melodic playing but it may be too much of a good thing.

  • I checked it out on Spotify, there is some nice classic Floyd guitar work from Gilmore but after a while it started to bored the hell out of me. I felt like I was having a bad trip on an “Endless” elevator ride.
