Loaded it on my iPad yesterday. 1.1G download, have a good internet connection and 1 plus hours for the upgrade to download and load. Haven't played with it a lot yet but so far no problems.

I updated all our devices with no issues, the whole process is a bit slow given that millions of people are probably all trying to download it at the same time.

From past experience when iOS 7 came out and needed some big fixes right away, I'm going to wait til at least iOS 8.0.1 before I upgrade my iPhone 5 to 8, but even that might not happen as I intend on upgrading it soon to a iPhone 6 Plus.

I don't blame you there, but my phone is a company phone so it will be a while before it is upgraded. I plan to get my wife and daughter a new iPhone when they are up for renewal.

I have upgraded my 5S... It was 1.1GB in size but my storage took a big hit... It was about 10GB free before and only 7GB after. I don't see much difference in appearance, there was a Health app which I had no use for.

Double pressing the home button will bring up the screens of all the running apps, but on the top of the screen is a row of your most recent contacts. You can select them and call direct w/o going to the phone app and into contacts or recents. The best feature is that you can opt out of a group conversation in messaging.

The camera has a couple of new features, time lapse and easier adjusting of exposure settings.

You can finally install new keyboard apps such as Swype. You can swipe your finger across the keyboard to enter text. It's a bit clunky at first but it is really nice once you get the hang of it. The Apple keyboard is supposedly improved with the auto correct.

The battery consumption went up a bit. You can now monitor which apps are burning up power.

The Apple 5 and 5C will take a bigger hit in performance, but the Apple 4S will take a 50% hit in performance. I would be leery of upgrading that.

Just updated my iPad Air and iPhone 5. Going to play a while with it.

    FYI...

I was having a terrible time trying to get them updated as the download wanted to take 40+ hours, even today some 4 days after the release. EVERYTHING from Apple came to a crawl for me. OSX updates, you name it. I finally found out the issue...DNS. I did Traceroutes back to apple and they were horrible. I switched my iMac network settings to use Google DNS ( 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4 ), did a DNS cache flush and POW...my iPad Air updated in 8 minutes. Changed out my Router's DNS to use Google addresses and everything is far more faster on my network out to the web.
    No excuses!

You can now go in and change background app refresh and help the battery.

After playing with the keyboards I actually still like the Apple keyboard the best, Swiftkey was just as accurate for me but just didn't fit my hands as well. Flesky actually wasn't as accurate for me even after a couple hours of usage. I don't like the Swype style of text input so didn't use that one.

I hate the predictive text on any of there keyboards and have that turned off. It doesn't help me because I don't always look at the screen while typing.

IMO the best way to test a keyboard is to type with your eyes closed just like in a computer. I can actually type faster that way at this point because there are less distractions.

There is no widescreen setting with the new forums software that I'm aware of
  • I've been using it for a few days now, I like the improvements in the mail app. Didn't like the recent pop ups so I turned it off. Tried a few different keyboards keep going back to apples. Also like that you can answer a text from the app you're in

    Cheers

The only issue I have is the stupid iPhone 5 keeps asking me for my Apple Store password. Even if I enter it, the next time I swipe to get to the home screen I get prompted again.

My only complaint is the wifi seems a lot slower on the 6. When I do side-by-side speedtests, my old iphone 5 wins every time.

I upgraded to 8 on my ipad mini last week....IMO complete fail. My internet connectivity kept stopping / getting slower. Today it wouldn't connect at all and it wasn't my ISP. Right now I am upgrading to 8.0.2 which states it has 'upgrades and bug fixes'. Apple dropped the ball on this release, since many folks such as my self have switched to Apple because of their reputation for quality. Anyone else have similar issues? Again, get the 8.0 right the first time Apple, since you charge a premium for your devices....

Yep, my mini is slower on some sites. Even with the latest "fix" it isn't as fast.

I've had no issues with iOS 8, other than the update they pushed earlier in the week that killed cellular for some people, I got hit by that but was able to downgrade with no problems thanks to their iCloud service.

There's really no such thing as 'getting a software release right the first time', there are just too many variables in play at any given time. When was the last time you downloaded an operating system that didn't have ongoing updates to fix something that was broken? Thought so...

Perfection CAN be achieved, but would come at such an astronomical price that consumers wouldn't be able to afford it.

All that being said, the fiasco with the 8.0.1 release this week was a big issue for some people. That was a really big screw up, the most likely scenario there is it just didn't go through normal testing protocols before it dropped because even a company who is really bad at QC would have caught that issue. Those are the kinds of things Apple needs to avoid, and customers do have an expectation to not have those kinds of problems with their software.

People expect perfect but they also have to remember that Apple is just a company run by people, and people do screw up from time to time.
