Hello everybody haven't been to this forum for some time, I'm in the market for new subs and I'm quite suprized to see everybody talking about SVS subs.
I was looking into geting the psw505 with the special still going on, maybe 2.
I need to replace my kenwoods(original HT, cheap subs) so I can complete my setup.
My setup is in the living room with adjoining dinning room and Kitchen areas (open space). I know my subs are the weakest element in my HT , so does anybody have a take on the PSW505.
Anything will be helpfull.

Mains: RT55's
Center: CS400
Surround: FXi50's
Rear Surround: RT25's
Front subs: 2 Kenwood sw103
Rear sub: psw202 in reverse phase
Receiver: onkyo TX797
Amp: onkyo M-282
DVD:Onkyo DV-sp301
Tv: JVC 36D (getting replaced within a year with a hitachi 50-60 LCDTV)
Cables: a mixture of Monster & bettercables.

Greetings Peteran. Although this is a Polk forum many of the users talk about other speakers from time to time. This forum is mostly based on value for your hard earned money (although we also have quite a few users with higher end gear as well). Polk makes fine speakers and I have owned RTXXi series and now own the LSi. Subwoofers, at this point, have not been Polk's forte. I own the PSW350 and the Hsu STF-2 outperforms it. I recently purcahased a more expensive (than the Hsu) SVS sub and am quite thrilled with it.

Just for kicks, email SVS tech support (from their website) and give them your room dimensions and listening habits and they will recommend a sub for you.

All three of my subs will play at lower levels with the same output until you get below the 32 hz range where the PSW350 rolls off quickly. There is a lot of information below this region that one misses in movies. The Hsu can play most of it, but struggles with some of the demanding HT scenes especially since the volume of my listening area is greater than 3,000 FT3 with openings to other areas of the house.

I would definitely consider a SVS and not just because I own one, but because you owe it to yourself.

SVS hands down!!!! Dollar for dollar the best value for your money. There really is no comparison between these brands, not even if you stack the others you are still missing the lower signals and if you feel there is not a whole lot of lower signals in movies, think again. You don't know how much you are missing until you get one capable of leading you there and giving you a thrill... SVS will show you with athority!!!

    Good luck

Just emailed (2 hrs ago) SVS gave dimensions of my room and they recommended PB2-ISD. I'm looking into it, maybe it's worth a try.
Youre right I'm probably not getting all the low bas signals in and when the movie is too loud it gets distorted.
    I just have to figure out positioning, it's a monster (28x25x18 115lbs).

no disrespect here but the 505 is an ok sub. its like slepping with meg ryan.
but the svs is like slepping with j-lo. Both will get the job done, but one will do it at a higher level.
I hope i did not offend anyone in this forum.

The 505 is a great sub, and if you're getting a combo deal with 200 off, basically making the sub cost 300, it cant be beat for its price.

The 505 packs a lot more punch than the 404. Spec wise, you get 100 more continuous watts and about 5hz deeper. Its obvious when you listen to them.

    and about 5hz deeper

Sometimes it helps to put this into perspective from an octave standpoint because the number of frequencies in each octave is not linear.

For example, an extension change from 25 Hz to 20 Hz is about 1/3 of an octave - quite noticeable for most people if the source material has content that low.

But change from 1005 Hz to 1000 Hz (for example) is hardly measureable on an octave scale.

Sort of like how to a 5 yr old, a year passed seems like an eternity because that is 1/5th of the 5 yr old's life. But to a 48 yr old, a year slips by without hardly realizing it.
