Anyone riding ATVs?

I'm done riding street bikes and am looking to buy my 1st ATV. Being down here in SC I figure it should be a good time to hit some trails, play a little. Anyone else riding? I'm considering a Yamaha Raptor 700. The Can-AM X Xc1000 looks good but the cost at 13k is more than I'm wanting to spend. Any thoughts or other models to consider?

Bev & I have Suzuki King Quads; hers is a 2008 450cc, mine a 2009 750cc; both utility type quads. I like your choices---Yamaha or CanAm, both great quality.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

I've had a Honda since 2002 and it has performed flawlessly, other than the big stick that I ran through the tire.Home Theater

I raced a raptor 660r back in 2001. It was pretty good, a little tippy when on the stock suspension, but the 700's are way better handles good and plenty of power right out of the box. Funny thing is I traded mine straight up for my first streetbike, a 99 CBR900RR!Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. Awesome info. I got to see the 700r over the weekend and it looks so much fun. Thinking I will pull the trigger when I find an awesome deal.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

You might want to consider going "utility" quad. They can come in handy for a number of things, plus for long trail rides you've got plenty of room for hauling stuff. Don't let anyone tell you utility quads aren't "fun" I ride the hell out of mine.
I'm finally gonna outfit my KQ750 with some decent radials, as my stock tires are done.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2 -

It really helps to hide scratches/scrapes. I'd really like to get a power steering Yamaha Grizzly 700 next. Love Yamaha's motorcycles/ATV's.

Check out http://www.carolinaadventureworld.net, I've had a lot of friends go here and rave about how good of a time it was. The most interesting part to me is the ATV drag strip they have, sounds like a blast. Good luck and be safe.

I have an ATC 200X that I ride around my parents house/land in Aiken, SC. Only about 48 acres but other family has land down the road so plenty of land to ride on . I generally ride in my jeep's. Where are you located?Check out http://www.carolinaadventureworld.net, I've had a lot of friends go here and rave about how good of a time it was. I have heard good things about it too. I have a good friend that goes there often with his side by side. I wish they would open some jeep trails.
Also if you get something and want a fun ride in a National Forrest check out URE:

I can be there in about 1.5 - 2 hours so when time permits on a Saturday I make day trips up there. Hit me up when you are ready to go.

Alas, I'm no longer in the Carolina's. Jury is still out on if I made the right decision or not, but if would have totally taken you up on your offer.

Sherard,
What are your goals? Are you talking about 'racing' 4 wheelers, which are obviously different than most 'utility' quads.
Are you looking to get out in the woods and pull trailers or gear and go through mud and water? Or go to a track and jump and go through the whoops?
I have owned several (utility) and you can really specialize them.
I am of the off road user so a Raptor or something of that type would be useless to me. I look for the best suspension offered, locking differentials and a towing capacity beyond my fat ****.
However, when the trailer is unhooked I can get up to 50-60 miles an hour and have a blast on the trail. I agree with Steve, any 4 wheeler can be an absolute hoot to ride.
I prefer independent suspension on all 4 corners, and start at 700CC and go up.
It all depends on what you want to do.
I am a Polaris man myself including snowmachines, but almost all makers these days make a great machine.
I just bought my first BRP product which makes me get a rash thinking about it still and my brother stopped speaking to me because of it.
Whatever you get, have a blast on it.

I scored a new Raptor 700r SE for an awesome price. Been riding it a tad bit and love it. I plan to take it out the fields or somewhere like that soon. I'm on Lake Wylie SC if you guys want to hang out and have a beer or two.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

Absolutely agree on the 700cc minimum, especially if you're coming from a motorcycle and you're used to that kind of power. The difference between Bev's 450cc King Quad and my 750cc is very noticeable---though I do find her quad to run a bit smoother than mine--but mine has noticeably more torque.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

Nice! I love Yamaha's products. Had many YZF series sportbikes, and a Roadstar which I absolutely miss.

You should be fairly close to Carolina Adventure World. I'm about and hour 45 from there...... I still say we SE guys should get together some time somewhere.
