Well, my daughter went out with a friend this morning, called me later asking if she could go on a plane ride. I wanted to see her first ride, but couldn't say no. So, I gave them permission and she went on the ride, she even got to take the stick for a few, hate I missed it but glad she got to enjoy it. mskbh9owkipr.jpg

    That's awesome! Good for her.

My son actually got to go up and fly a couple of times this year. The EAA Young Eagles program is a great resource for young aviation hopefuls.

I'm sure it was a thrilling experience for her. Especially if it was a nice day and she got to work the stick. A memorable experience!

Thats awesome.... my Cousin flew for the Red Baron Squad for years and I got to go up with them in the open cockpit Stearmen Biplanes doing Barrel rolls & Loops & the hammerhead where you go straight up & stall them flip over and dive down to get out of the stall :)

they canceled the Squad or it would be neat to get her a ride in one, though my Younger cousin bought and owns one of the Stearmen Biplanes, I dont get to see him much

I bet she was grinning from ear to ear and a private plan makes the experience even better how cool.

Thanks guys, she did enjoy it. She is 13, be 14 on Oct 29, and has me wrapped.

That's ok with me, she does great in school without being pushed to, I have always just asked her to do her best. No problem at home.... I keep waiting for things to change and hoping they won't.

I just really hate that I wasn't there to see it.

My cousin name is Travis, don't know if you remember any names. I was lucky to meet several of the members, was some great guys who loved meeting people. They were perfect for airshows. The use to give out rides for promotion. My cousin Brian bought one of the planes after they dismantled the Squad. he also had a Cessna 210 but got tired of it and traded it for a WWII navy trainer the SNJ which is the navy's name for a Texan .

  • Was probably 25 years ago so I don't remember names. I do remember the flight though. Up in the air.. Him- "ever done any aerobatics"? Me- "No", Him- "Want to?" No chance to answer, straight up into the sky, at the top of the accent, prop stops. We roll over and are plummeting toward the earth. I am frantically looking for the "ON" switch, lol. In what at the time seemed to be feet above the ground the prop started again and we pulled up, did some barrel rolls and some other cool ****. Freakin' awesome.... had to toss my drawers after....

LOL Welcome to the "HAMMERHEAD" Ken! I found some really nice bars on each side of my seat that I swear I left finger marks on. I made the mistake the 1st time taking my camera with me - was like being on a roller coaster ride with you hand stuck up in the air, I could not grab anything as to not drop my SLR out the side :)

  • Was that a Bellanca Citabria, by the way? Used to go up with my dad in one of those and also the Aeronca Champ that preceded it. Also, the Cessna 150. Dad and I built a heavily modified Pete Bowers "Fly Baby." Was air worthy from 1966-1970.

If you think you could handle her being a pilot someday I would keep her interested in it.

That's pretty cool stuff there Pastor Bill :)

Vmaxer - if you have some local airshows you should try and take your daughter to 1 as sometime that small one are the best with the vintage aircraft.
