Yes, thanks to good advice from forum members here I was able to find something on the used market nearby for a great price that was exactly what I wanted without having to go through a bunch of preamp gear swapping. Started out with an Anthem Pre-2L bought from a forum member, which opened my ears to what a tube preamp can do.

I'm a bit of a SF buff myself having been a former owner. Nice well built pre's that have withstood the test of time. That Anthem is no slouch on it's own but the SF-3 is in another league.

You don't happen to live in or near Chicago do you ? Would love a trip down memory lane.

Thanks man, but unless they are giving away free seafood and good wine, I really don't visit the state much. Not many I know still have Sonic Frontiers gear from my youth. They sure left an impression on me back then....as obviously they do for you now.

OK, OK -- if you've got an RS-1500, I'm ok with your using a TC-777 for cleaning tapes! ;- )

  • Guess my favorite would be my JVC projector. Second favorite is Klipsch RF-7ii speakers. Most everything else I'm not nearly as in love with. These two things were done right though.

Nice, the RF-7 is probably the only Klipsch tower speaker I have heard that absolutely blew me away with is musicality. Maybe not the most refined but Damn was it dynamic.
Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. Gotta be my Musical Fidelity A5 integrated amp per advice and suggestions here on CP!
    hero_intro.jpg

It is the sonic 'heart' of my hybrid ht/music rig - the HT Direct feature is awesome, it has a respectable phono section (kicked **** on a stand alone Jolida phono pre I tried), hefty beast with power in spades, yet throws a spacious soundstage with finesse.

Whoa, Pongshi that Technics R2R is sweet eye candy!
  • My Emotiva XPA-5 Gen2 is hands down my favorite piece of gear. It really opened things up. Was considering just getting a Pioneer SC 75 which I'm sure I'd have been happy with, but 200 x 5 all channels driven is something not even an SC can deliver. My second choice would be my new LG 60" Plasma. When even Samsung and LG bowed out of Plasma, I decided it was time to make a move. Got a great deal and besides that Plasma just looks WAY better than the LED it replaced. It just looks more like real film than anything else to my eye.
