LSiM703 with 704c, rears?
I am on a budget of around $2,000 for a new home theatre setup (just for speakers), I have 1-2 Polk DSWPro600 subs available (might use one for basement rec room setup). After much searching I have decided on the LSiM703 and 704c for the main speakers, my two issues are if I should buy new (have a decent offer from an authorized online reseller) or I can save $350 and buy them used (703, fantastic condition, plus 704c from ebay Polk refurb). Is it worth the $350 to have the full 5 year warranty?
My other question is what to use for the rear speakers. My room is a bit of an odd setup, its a basement room with a small cutout near the staircase that is 93" long and 23" deep, the TV will go there, speakers will be close to wall but I will bring them as forward as possible.so the side wall shouldn't be an issue (just the wall behind it), where the theatre seats will go (just ordered some Palliser Hifi), there isn't enough room for the FX speakers since one of the side walls is a cutout for the main water line with only 16" wall, and the 4 theatre seats will go from wall to wall so any speaker that isn't in wall will stick out on both sides and the sound would shoot right past anyone sitting on the ends. I was thinking of going cheap to stay within budget and getting TL3's for surrounds, maybe cornering them on that back wall (seats will only be 6" from wall), or going with 265LS which I can get for under $300 open box, I have room in wall for these and they would look nicer than speakers sticking out in the back, although I think the 265LS would be a little overkill for rear speakers that will be used 95% for TV and movies, am I wrong? My only other issue with the in walls is that the drywall is only finished on the side they are installed in, the rooms on the other side are both unfinished, I have no idea how this will effect the sound of the speaker, I could always build a box for it around the wall studs or just put some wall insulation around them.
a couple of other things I am questioning
-for movies should I put both DSWPro600 woofers in the room, or is 1 enough (would have to run a 50 foot sub cable to place the second in there (wife doesn't want visible wires).
-I have read its always best to place bookshelf speakers on stands, like the Sanus Steel SF26, but for practical reasons I really would prefer to place them on top of a few display shelves (Ikea Besta) that I was going to flank the TV with. If I get some isolation legs or spiked cones to put on the bottom of the bookshelves will they still perform close to what they would on stands (I am not an audiophile, just a novice).
