LSiFX vs FX1000 vs FX500i

I currently have a set of FX500i's for my surrounds and now looking for rears. LSiFX are available and FX1000 but the 1000's are at 2x the price.

What would you guys do?

Thanks Polk Family!

  • Thanks Dennis. Make sense, but they are all very close. Currently a CSi5, RTi8, RT500is. This is just for the rear....

    What do you think?
  • Keep what you have they currently match your other speakers. I use a pair of FXI 3's for my rear surrounds with an LSI Front and LSIC center. Sounds great, not much goes to rear surround speakers.

  • The only time that I suggest going for surrounds that have the extra woofers like the LSi or 1000s is if you are going to listen to a lot of music in 5/7 channel stereo/music mode where they get a full signal all the time. Used this way, they would fill out the back end more, otherwise movies and music concert tracks just don't have much info that requires the range or power handling.

The Lsi and F/X 1000's are huge speakers compare to the 500's. Make sure you have the room if you are going in that direction. I agree that your best move is to keep what you have if it is used only for movies.

  • For rears I would either match what you have for surrounds, or go with a direct radiating speaker from the same line.

Personally I would go with direct radiating rather than bipole/dipole speakers for surround rears. I believe that is what the THX suggested settings are.

  • Thanks Everyone! I am really happy I got the answer. DTS HD suggests direct fireing speakers placed 60 degrees from listening position.... Going to go with that....

Probably bookshelf speakers from my RTI would be a good match? Is there a rear speaker for hte RTI lines?

There is, IIRC the RTi4 (RTi A1) or RTi6 (RTi A6) are what your looking for.

    RTi4 (black) Polk eBay - 179 a pair
RTi4 (cherry) Polk eBay - same price as above

RTi6 (black) Polk eBay - 212.49 for the pair

  • Cool thanks Enders! I saw that on the polk direct store.... RTI6 is probably what I am getting. Wish they had white. Weird the surrounds were white.
