Got a new ride Tuesday.....
I'm digin' the Fender bagged sound system. A friend commented he hated it and it sounded garbled. Sounds fine to me so far. Anyone have any experience on the new TDI's?

I've just come off of 24 straight years of Jetta dieseling (2 cars, a 1991 and a 2001). Golfs have moved upscale somewhat, while the Jetta has gone the other way ever so slightly, but it's still a great little car. Change the timing belt when it's due and that motor will outlast your love of the car, and that was a long time for me. Congrats, a very nice looking ride )

My parents bought a 2013 Jetta TDi last year. It is a blast to drive and they love it. I love visiting and airing that thing out.Shawn

Nice ride Congrats!
Most of our company cars are Jettas and Passats....and a couple of co-workers have the TDI's. One did have some warranty issues with his engine but the cars are much more refined than years past. I just don't care much for the bland grey suit styling.
As far as the Fender sound system....The acoustic Engineer from Panasonic that did that system has won several car audio SQ championships, Natan Budiono.

It would suck if they had too many limitation in designing that stereo and were not able to get some good sound out of it. As I understanding it, he is an excellent system tuner....A friend who is a past SQ World Champ run in the same circles.

No comment on the TDI's but I LOVED my 200 Jetta GL. 199k before she died (long story but due to Jiffy Lube error). I'd have kept driving my manual till the wheels feel off (and in theory did lol).
Great cars, although I pulled my system out as it had a Moonsoon system that I replaced with 2 sets of Polk dv6501's and a 10" sub (my single days lol)....
I miss that system sometimes.... 2 layers of dynamat over everything, bass for days.... ahh it was fun....
Now you cant replace darn near anything cause its all tied together...."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
The interior is what sold me on my '12 Passat. It's also a blast to drive.I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE!

Really diggin this new ride. went to Charleston this past weekend with the GF adn put about 520 mile on the take before the light came on. Looks like highway and citty driving neeted about 38 - 39 MPG. I like the Fender system but it is a littel boomy for me. So far I've put almost 1K miles on it and 2 takes of fuel.HT/2Channel: Emotiva MMC-1, Adcom GFA-555II, Polk SDA 3.1's, Teac TN-300 TT, Polk Center and Sub.

Very nice. My wife bought a new Passat last month. It's our first VW but we are liking it so far. The think white looks good on the Jetta.Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. What I am tryin to say is, is that the course of your life, well its changing, and you don't even see it- Forest Bondurant

I did have an "oh ****!" moment yesterday though. Went to a local station to fill up. Apparently the diesel nozzle is a different size over a gas nozzle. the station I went to had gas nozzles on the diesel pump handle. Couldn't get the nozzle in the tank fill hole. Apparently that is something fairly new. I thought there was a lock on the flap to stop people from siphoning the fuel so I called the dealer. They said "Nope, you are at a station that has a gas nozzle on a diesel pump!" I'll have to make sure I don't let the fuel level get supper low on trips and check pumps before I put my card in.HT/2Channel: Emotiva MMC-1, Adcom GFA-555II, Polk SDA 3.1's, Teac TN-300 TT, Polk Center and Sub.

I drove a diesel for many years, and the only drawbacks I found were: 1) that occasionally diesel is hard to find when you need it (I have a bad habit of running my tank down till the warning light comes on) and 2) that they can be hard to start in very cold weather.
Diesel used to be cheaper/gallon than gas, as well as giving more mpg.
All in all, diesel is a great choice since they now run cleaner, the fuel is available more widely, and the engines stand up much longer.
