When you have a Bluetooth player and send say 96/24 to the server,in this case the car radio, what does the radio do to that signal?
Is it a pass through technology or is it processed in some way?

  • This might be a great replacement for ipod classics now that they are being discontinued. Two of mine just got stolen from me the other day. Not sure if I was going to buy two more or go another route. These SOUND promising.

Are there any car stereos that are simply media players with hdd or ssd/flash drives? Sure should be.

Sony needs to get their head out of their lower end...lets see bring out hi-rez SACD then get out of SACD. Which is it going to be Sony support hi-rez or not you can't have it both ways...

Looks like a good idea from Sony to fill a gap in the market. Astell & Kern does make a portable player that will store and play back both high resolution PCM and DSD, but their cheapest unit costs $799. It looks like the Sony isn't set up to do DSD, but I'm wondering if a firmware upgrade might enable it in future.

I am attracted by the storage capacity on the Sony unit as I have an iPod Classic with around 140GB of 256K MP3s on it. I have had two of the 120GB versions have fatal hard drive failures after around 2 years of use. Would be nice to have something that also plays back FLAC files. Looks like the cost will be $299, but a 128GB microSD add on memory card would add another $100.

I recently bought a FiiO X5 (mini review has been a pending item for it for some time) DAP, and while it's a bit chunky compared to my iPod 160GB I love it. 24/192 FLAC support + DSD support recently. At the moment, I have two 128GB microSD cards in it, but when larger ones come out I should be able to upgrade. I actually use it in my car alot (has a separate line out) and SQ is very neutral. Software has been stable as well.

I'm not sure what you mean here. Sony is releasing their DSD files to download.
