I didn't even know that existed! A beauty!

    94.6 lbs. 250 x 2 @ 8 ohms. Later '80s (1987)

A beast, for sure! But I'm not crazy enough to pay the BUY NOW price for it!

The Holy Grail of Yamaha Amps...Nah if I had 10 g's for an amp would be for that... but it sure is rare for one to hit the market.

That is an awesome amp. I can't get over that it is over a hundred pounds. It looks like he rolls it around on a furniture dolly. I have a MX1000 Yamaha but it not the Centennial edition. He there a difference.

Alot of money for a 27 year old amp. If I was gonna drop that kind of coin I'd go for something designed and built within the last year or two.

    Looks nice though.

Calling Mr. Hardy......Come in Mr. Hardy!!!!!
Where’s the KABOOM?!?! There’s supposed to be an Earth shattering KABOOM!!!
  • If I had that kind of money, I'd buy a Wyred4Sound amp, have an incredible toy, and still have enough money for other goodies.
  • That is a beast of a vintage amp.
The seller does have a decent Ebay rating.
But what throws me off a bit is this:

"UNIT IS IN BEAUTIFUL COSMETIC & OPERATIONAL CONDITIONS. LAMPS & INDICATORS ARE 100% GOOD, BRIGHT & EVEN. "
"SPOTLESS INSIDE & OUT. NO SIGNS OF ABUSE HERE! PLUS, NON-PET/NON-SMOKING HISTORY. "
"THIS IS A 100V UNIT AND HAS BEEN ALWAYS PLUGGED IN A CUSTOM-BUILT 120V-100V 2KVA STEP-DOWN TRANFORMER (120lb BY ITSELF"

At $10.5K, I'd personally say that the dent/gouge in the left front panel takes it out of the "beautiful cosmetic shape" category. It does appear to be well taken care of, but at $10.5K it better be flawless cosmetically.

And he describes it as "spotless INSIDE and out".
Okay, so when you popped the top, why not take some pictures of the innards ? Very important in this price range.
And "spotless" doesn't translate into "FULLY reconditoned". The 27 year old caps may be "spotless", but they are 27 year old caps. I haven't looked online to see if there are other components which may be prone to failure and would need to be replaced/upgraded, but there's that unknown to deal with.
Not to mention the need for a well-built step-down transformer. I wouldn't feel very comfortable plugging my newly acquired Yamaha into a wall outlet around here.

So, all in all, I think I'll step aside so that mhardy can make this purchase.
This really is a beauty of a beast and I think it would fit in quite nicely with his collection of vintage gear.

  • If I was going to go overboard buying a vintage amp, I'd probably be looking for the 300wpc Onk from the early nineties.
