SACD Suggestions

Listening to some music this morning on SACD and would like to get some suggestions on SACD's that you would recommend:

I have:

• Spyro Gyra - Good to GoGo
• Holst - Planets
• Beethoven - Syphonies Nos 5&7
• Rhapsody in Blue - Michel Camilo
• Diana Krall - Love Scenes
• Yes - Going For The One
• Hiromi - Brain
• Mussorgsky - Pictures at an Exhibition - Carlo Ponti/Russian National Orchestra
  

I would like to add to my modest SACD collection and would like to hear from fellow Polkies as to what you have found that delivers superb sound quality..

+1 on Gaucho and the PFs chumlie mentioned. Another +1 on Madman and most other EJ, his SACDs sound great and are quite cheap as SACDs go. I have Madman, also Captain Fantastic and GYBR. Dire Straits' Brothers In Arms also excellent. Are you interested in stereo only or 5.1 Mikey? I just ordered Donald Fagen's The Nightfly this morning, I hear good things...

Wow I just ordered Nightfly this morning too!!! i have gaucho dts format from a few years back and on... i mostly listen in stereo....

YES- Close To The Edge sounds infinately better than the Going For The One Audio Fidelity SACD (ok, I'm exaggerating, but it does sound a lot better).

The SHM-SACD of The Police "Synchronicity" sounds very good.
GET THE MOBILE FIDELITY DIRE STRAITS BROTHER'S IN ARMS. The SHM-SACD doesn't have the whole album on it.
The Doors SACD's sound excellent as Chumlie said.......EXCEPT (IMO) the first album "The Doors". Not sure what master tape was used, but it was not in good shape. There is distortion on the drums on "The End" and a couple other tracks. I recommend the first pressing (West German) "Target" CD for this one instead of the SACD. All the other Doors SACD's are good.

Dire Straits-Dire Straits on SHM SACD sounds really nice. And both of the Pink Floyd's mentioned above are well worth having. Diana Krall When I a look in a your Eyes was my first SACD and sounds great

I agree with the above on the Close To The Edge Audio Fidelity;
and Brothers In Arms (I have the 20th Anniversary 5.1 edition)

Let me add:
Mark Knopfler - Shangri-La (Mercury import) (excellent SQ);
Norah Jones - Come Away With Me (excellent SQ- although my buddy was critical of the 5.1 channel mix);
Diana Krall - The Look Of Love (decent)

Lots of good SACD suggestions above.

Another one that I think is great is Yo Yo Ma Plays Ennio Morricone. Fantastic at either 5.1 or 2-channel.

Oh! I completely forgot about the SHM-SACD Tears For Fears "Songs From The Big Chair". This is an outstanding sounding SACD. Highly recommended!

If you're looking for some Classical options look at the RCA Living Stereo Hybrids.. they are usually really nice recordings and the ones that are in print are usually very reasonable in price.

If you're referring to the original Sony "Living Stereo" SACD that can be picked up for about $10.00/each, then yes. Some of those titles have been remastered and being re-released by Analogue Productions for substantially more $$$.

I have collected 15 SACDs since i got my Oppo and must say Mike Oldfield Tubular Bells, and DSOTM sound awesome.

Some other good ones I forgot about are all the Stevie Ray Vaughan SACD's by Mobile Fidelity. They are all excellent sounding and highly recommended.

Me too, Nightfly delivered today. Nothing beats well recorded music...another I like is
the MoFi of Toulouse Street. Also another +1 for the Yo Yo Ma that teekay mentioned, just excellent if you like his playing...
