One bad experiance at BB

I just got back from BB (Niles, OH). I usually do my audio shopping at CC because I never had a bad experiance there and usally I know what I want and don't have to ask questions. That was the situation tonight I knew I wanted some (6) audio cables to connect my player to the reciever so that I can listen to dvd audio discs. I have a fiber cable for video but need audio cables to listen to DVD-A to get the full effect. That was expland to the salesboy when he asked what I needed the for he said "you don't need them since you have a fiber cable". I tried to explain it again and he still did not agree after and escorted me to the recievers and asked which one I had and I told him I had a Denon 3803 and I knew he didn't know Denon name and asked which one was close to mine (stupid-****) I didn't know which to look at and really could care less at this point. I showed him a Panny DVD player and showed him the optic and speaker outs and how to hook them up, he again disagreed and went to get someone to support his side. He came back with a salesgirl and again I explained the same thing after she asked and again she argued and went to get a third person. Now I'm surrounded by 3 disagreeing people and the last salesman (not much younger then me 35) asked what reciever I had and I told him and he too didn't know the Denon name and said there must be something wrong with it because his Yammy will play DVD-A and expalined that mine must be... (he caught himself before the word junk came out) something wrong with the inputs or outputs. I expland again that mine will too but will not give true surround unless using the audio cables and not the fiber so I have to change the setting when I want to listen to DVD-A, I have the Faith Hill DVD-A and the only surround I get is when I play the video the rest has no real surround, he suggested that maybe the DVD-A is not all 5.1 (what a dick) and that maybe the video is the onlt thing 5.1. He and the others kept arguing and all I wanted at this point was to get the **** out of the store. Well to make a longer story short I finally half-assed suggested that I will have to go back and look at the settings again. I then went to check out with only comp. video cables and no audio cables. The video cable were to go from the player to the reciever (because my TV dosen't have comp. inputs, 7yrs old, or I would go straight to TV) well guess what (I'm sure most of you know) I can't do that, upconversion doesn't include comp. video and the "know-it-all" salesboy never said otherwise even after I explaned how my setup was hooked up but then again that dosen't supprise me after all that crap. I guess I will have to go back to return the video cables which is the last thing I want to do after tonight. I never recieved that treatment at CC (for what it's worth).

Thanks for letting me vent

You would have been MUCH better off ordering what you wanted from Signal Cables, Blue Jean Cables or get some Audioquest from Audioadvisor. Chances are....no....I guarantee you will end up with better cables and exactlly what you want/need for close to the same amount of money and have them in just a few days. The hassle factor is way down. Plus you will be dealing with knowledgeable sales people.

Best Buy is ok if they have exactly what you want and you can go directly to where it is and then to the checkout and get through the extended waranty sales pitch.

Do what I do, when such paradigm presents itself :

Get fairly wasted on cheap rum and MHL. An hour later Go puke it all up, do a couple more shots, **** in the backyard with some mayonaise, eat some frog legs, and go to bed.

Or listen to Shack, 6 of one, half a dozen etc etc....

I can't remember how many people I've helped at BB just by being within ear shot of the zit popping sales weenies they hire. Get your info here and don't even bother with the sales-kids at BB. If you have to ask for advice/help, your better off going to a higher end B&M store.

That's the funny part. I knew what I wanted and when asked what I needed them for well... that started the whole thing. Some of them think they are the audio gods and when that all started I couldn't think straight. Those little troll ****!!!!:o

You should have popped smoke, and rolled outta that **** gun a'blazing....oh wait, that's a Texas situation....nevermind.

I wish I could assault every employee that approaches me and asks if I need help....even if I just fell on the ground. I would like to attack them like a white tiger on Roy Horn.

I second the SC thought, Frank won't lie to you....or meet you at your house with a BB coupon and a pack of Chiclets.

Dave, i feel for ya.. i haven't been treated that badly before. but I'll go into either CC or BB and they just don't know what they sell or don't sell. I had to go find my own Y splitter a couple weeks ago. the sales dude.. just had never heard of a Y splitter and didn't know Monster made them. I even showed him on their own web page in the store.. still he couldn't find it. I found it myself. paid for it. and left.

That situation is a sure indication that you were looking for love in all the wrong places... Iv'e gone to record stores in malls and asked about SACD's and DVD-Audio disc and the sales people have looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language. Which indeed I was. You can send your wife to any Radio Shack with what you need writtendown, and they will give her the wrong thing. I'm sure this could go on and on. Most of the peolpe in these jobs don't have a clue. I use to love reading up on some new receiver or something, then going to audition it, then the sales person has to "go look for the manual" because I asked to hear a feature he never heard of.

Go shop somewhere else, on line, e-bay, even crutchfield.com can get you some audio cables. If you want love, do what I do, Go to the Strip Club. Good luck!

I would recommend either Blue Jeans or Signal Cable for your audio cables. There are countless others. I have some monster cables M-series that are very nice also.

Just to let you know the sales guy at my local CC told me the same thing. Yes, my Eagles DVD-A will play through my optic output but this is not as good as the multi-channel analog.

As has been mentioned when I shop at the CC or BB it is to get what I want I do not ask any questions. To bad because once at least CC had some knowledgeable sales staff, but to give the cheap prices they cut these folks. Still I like those prices I have gotten on my POLKS!!!

There are a couple guys on the board who work at CC, I am sure they do a better job with the customers.

I recently got a part time job at CC working just Saturdays; I wanted the discounts  I know there are other CC employees out there, tell me it’s not just me, but the training is horrendous!!! They stick you in front of some computer and try to teach you how to sell the extended warranty so the managers can get a bigger bonus. They tell you some tech facts, but teach you nothing.

There are some employees that I work with who have been there over 2 years and still know nothing. I feel so bad for the customers, and usually jump in and help when I finish with the current one I am with. I am not an expert, but I can size up what the customer wants at their house and piece together a system for them. The only area I am weak in would be the TV's over 36".

I have always hated BB, and shopped at CC, that’s why I got a job there instead of BB. It is amazing how stupid employees are, who then lead customers astray. An example I heard this weekend while helping someone else “This Onkyo receiver puts out 65W x 6 channels, but this Sony puts out 100W x 6 channels which blows away the Onkyo. Plus I am sure you have heard of Sony, but have you ever heard of Onkyo; you want to go with the Sony.” I was dumb founded by what I heard, but was not able to rescue this poor customer from buying the Sony 695 instead of the Onkyo 501 (which is the same price).

I am just trying my best to help customers go home happy and be able to enjoy their setup….

    Hey Sean,

I didn’t mean to make it sound like everyone is stupid. I do have plenty of co-workers that know what they are talking about, but the other ones drive me crazy. I do enjoy working with most all the guys in my department; makes the day go by faster.

My wife says the same thing about the E-learning; just click and make easy money.

They just revamped out management staff, some got forced to quit while others took demotions. It’s only been a week since new management came in; hopefully they are better than the last ones!!!

I don't BS customers with tech talk. I find out what they are looking for, show them whats crap and where to go from there. I do enjoy helping people out, makes you feel good :D

What kind of discount do you get? When the RTI70's were $399.00 ea what would you pay?

    Just courious

    Dave

P.S. I did call their home office and the store ****. Mgr (the Mgr. wasn't there) and explained the story to them. The home office person didn't know how things were to be hooked up until I explained it and he said know he learned something. The store ****.Mgr knew what I was explaining and also knew who the three were before I told him there names. They must be an ongoing problem for BB.

I was in BB the other day with my Uncle. I had recently picked out a Yamaha receiver and a nice center channel for him, and we were back looking for rear surrounds. I overheard a salesman talking to a guy as they walked from booth to booth in the home audio section. As they approached the Yamaha section he was like "This is our Yamaha stuff, it's pretty bottom of the line, so you'll want something more like this Bose or Klipsch stuff over here". He didn't even demo it! Just kept on walking.

I know for a fact that the center that I picked for my uncle was better than anything they had in the Bose section, because at the time, we listened to everything just for ****, and it blew away the Bose crap hands down. But would the salesman let the customer decide? Nope.....

That store had Sony, KLH, Bose, Yamaha, and Klipsch, BTW.

Dave- heh heh.... you talked to the **** manager..... hehehe
    Ludicrous gibs!
