Back to Vinyl

After a 30 year hiatus I'm back in the Vinyl game. So far I am really enjoying it and frankly am surprised at how good it sounds, much better than I was expecting. Pops and clicks haven't been much of an issue as so far I'm only using new vinyl. I started with the RP3 and Clearaudio Artist V2 cartridge, then added the Groovetracer subplatter, white belt, Groovetracer Delrin platter, and TT-PSU power supply. My goal is not to replicate my digital collection in vinyl, however for comparison I have the new Led Zeppelin II, and III on both hi-res digital and vinyl and prefer the vinyl. I also enjoy the tactile aspects of vinyl. However, I must admit that I wish each side played longer. lzzznun01vml.jpg

Nice! (*) Is that a pen or pencil?
  • Nice setup. It seems that I get pops and clicks on more of my new vinyl than the old though. About half of my new collection purchased in the last three years is noisy. Overall I do still prefer the sound if vinyl to digital, but obviously digital is more convenient. Enjoy!
Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. What I am tryin to say is, is that the course of your life, well its changing, and you don't even see it- Forest Bondurant

I'm a youngin, and got into vinyl about 6 years ago. I enjoy the sound of course, but also enjoy the collecting aspect of it. I order some new stuff online, but for me there's nothing like digging through a used bin and finding some good stuff for a couple bucks.

I started somewhat cautious, but am now pretty much full blown....RCM, MOFI Sleeves, and on my third table.

I like it and my 2 and 4 year olds like helping me pick out what we are going to listen to.

Nice setup! Vinyl does have a good sound to it. Cleaning 7 out of 10 times is most click and pop issues. I do agree however, my older ones as long as I got them new and they weren't played by someone with a ceramic cart. do seem to sound a bit cleaner or dont seem to hold the dust or static as much.

Nice setup. You'll have to find more room for all the vinyl you're going to buy. B)

You should always clean new vinyl before playing it...Helps with pops and clicks a lot..

I couldn't be without my record cleaner (VPI 16.5). I love to hunt down used vinyl to add to my collection and it makes an amazing difference. I use a three step enzyme/cleaner/pure water cleaning and a new inner liner for every record including all new ones (got to get rid of the residual mold release chemicals). I have to agree some of the new ones had more noise issues before cleaning than some of the used. Then again some of the used were really ............
This process is only one time initially and then we are good to go for a long time. I acquired the RCM used 5 years ago and it is the best purchase I every made for vinyl playback.
