Psw505

I recently purchased speakers for my house that is still under construction. After listening the to RTi10s and CSi5 I decided to go that route. In my buying frenzy, and in order to get an additional 199.99 off, I picked up a PSW505. (all from Crutchfield).

I wasn't able to listen to the 505, and after reading some threads on this forum, it seems that subs may not be Polk's forte. I can't install my system for several months so I'm not able to make a determination based on my aural preference.

So should I return the 505 and use the 299.99 to buy a different brand? (Hsu, SVS?) I don't really want to go over 500.00. Anybody have any experience with the 505?

thx
Greg

I might add that the game room area has a volume of ~ 3150 cu. ft., with the HT set up in the back half of the room

I know there are other choices, but I don't think there is a sub for $300 that can beat the 505. A properly placed 505 can hit pretty hard.

One other choice to consider is the Velodyne CHT15 that CC has on sale right now for 499 (however, it may have lower WAF because of its size).

The other route would be the 600+ range on up for SVS, which everybody loves around here. But, if you basically got your 505 for 299, I would have a really hard time giving it up.

Best Polk Sub imo and for 300 bucks--i wouldnt return it. Sell it on eBay if you decide you dont like it. You would probably get what you paid for it if not more.

Good call there. The 505 is definitely Polks best sub effort. SVS doesn't offer anything (yet, but I've heard rumors) at that price point and I doubt the entry level Hsu's would be a huge improvement.

Where did you buy your speakers? I am looking and C.C. won't give me a good price.

    Thanks,

Crutchfield will credit you 199.99 with a 499.99 Polk equipment purchase. That 199.99 has to go towards other Polk equipment.

If you're buying all your speakers Polk, i suggest making 2 seperate orders to take advantage of the 199.99 credit twice.
They won't suggest that when your placing your order. I was laying in bed when the though occured to me and I called em back and reentered the order so I could reap the benefits :D

Thanks for all the replies regarding the 505. Looks like I'll be hanging on to it.

Looks like I'm a little late here, but my $.02: I like the 505 a lot, and like you I got it at a bargain. it hits pretty hard if you want it to.

I have no regrets buying the 505. Hits very hard with HT in a 15 X 23 foot room. The dog even leaves the room when the system is on.

Do you have to call them to get the $199.00 credit? It looks like if I order online they just give you a psw202 with a value of $199.00
