Hi guys. I'm fairly new to the world of 7.1 so I'm seeking your help. My front stage is made up of RTi A9s and a CSi A6. I have a set of old RM8s and a set of FXi A6s. In my 5.1 setup, my FXi are where the surround backs would go, behind and l/r of the listener. My question is which would be better as the surrounds (direct l/r of listener) and as the surround backs, or does it matter? Eventually I'll snag another set of the FXi, but I'm wondering what would suit me best in the mean time. Thanks!

For me personally, I'd use the FXiA6's as the side surrounds. They are the better speaker and timbre matched to your fronts. For me, I watch more 5 channel sources than 7 channel. My satellite receiver only has 5 channel output and I still watch DVDs, so I'd want the lesser speaker as rear/back surrounds because they wouldn't be used as much. Just my opinion.
