Marantz SR5008 on the way!

After owning all the major AVR players at one time or another I finally settled down and ordered a Marantz SR5008 from accessories4less. Marantz was the receiver whose sound I liked the best out of all of them, having previously owned an SR5004. I sold that to upgrade to an Onk TX-NR818 (no HDMI pass-thru on standby with the 5004) but I found myself jonesing for that warm, lush Marantz sound that no other receiver was able to produce. The only thing I'm really losing, I think, is Audyssey XT32. The 5008 only has XT but not a biggie since I only use Audyssey for movies. 2ch stuff goes through the Mapletree tube preamp exclusively because I love that gosh darn thing (thanks, Face!).
Life is good in the audio world for me right now. At present, I have a few pieces of equipment that I will not need to upgrade for a long while. The PSA sub, the SR5008, the Mapletree pre, and the Oppo BDP are permanent members of the home theater/2ch rig. Even the Martin Logans aren't irreplaceable and I would have never thought that before owning them. There's just something about that SDA sound that I can't get out of my head. I may have to start hunting for some SRS's.
Anyway, what's anyone's opinion of the SR5008, and the idea of switching to that from a TX-NR818? I will post some kind of a review after I receive the unit and after some play time.

Congrats on the AVR
A friend at work's Onyko went out and after all the reading he did on those AVR's he is convinced their something wrong with their boards or chip theat other have talk about on forums.. He did get them to ship him a box and fix it for him, but he wants a Marantz SR5008 and I sent him to Accessories4less and we had just been looking at that AVR you just bought LOL
Let us know how it goes and what you think about it after you have some fun with it!2 ch- Polk CRS+ * Vincent SA-31MK Preamp * Vincent Sp-331 Amp * Marantz SA8005 SACD * Project Xperience Classic TT * Sumiko Blue Point #2 MC cartridge

I'll post a more complete review after I've had a little more time with it, but so far, this avr far exceeds my expectations. Huge soundstage, movies are lush and crystal clear, low end has lots of punch. But the big surprise was when I listened to some 2ch. stuff on the Marantz with "pure audio" selected. This turns off the sub output and shuts down all video processing and unnecesarry circuitry as to not interfere with the signal. I was completely blown away by the sound! Dare I say...it was better than running 2 ch. through my Mapleshade tube preamp. Really! The more time I spend with this unit the more impressed I am with it. I may have found my last AVR.TV: 65" Samsung QLED 4K

I told my wife this was the last AVR I would ever buy. She said I had to put that in writing.TV: 65" Samsung QLED 4K

Glad to hear your enjoying your new AVR. My last Marantz was the AV560 Surround Preamp Processor (2000) it had a big honkin remote and was a PIA to setup, but it sounded very good especially for 2ch. I have had a couple of Onkyo AVR's since (using as pre), and they sound good, but that Marantz was just much more smooth sounding in comparison. Had it not been for the simplicity of HDMI and the desire for lossless audio I would have kept it, and looking back I should have anyway. I do think I will be moving on from my Onkyo 717 at some point and getting another Marantz receiver or Pre. Enjoy!Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. What I am tryin to say is, is that the course of your life, well its changing, and you don't even see it- Forest Bondurant

The Marantz Pre-Pro/AVR's are on my list, as is Anthem and Pioneer...... Each has its merits.
