More of a rant then anything with a question. I have been scouring fleBay and Cl for some newer gear to replace my aging Kenwood Receiver. Stumbled across a nice looking Carver CT-24 for $69.99. I figure why not see what happens. Bid $70 and forget about it. Figured I'd never win because these things generally go for a lot more over there. Also came across a NAD 1600 for $49.99... Oh heck why not. Bid $50 and forget about it. So now I have two pre's to play with. Both working and both in decent shape. Went looking for a remote. WOW! Really? The only NAD remote is this one on ebay for $49.99 and it has no cover!!!!

I did find these:

http://www.amazon.com/CARVER-Replacement-Remote-Control-TDR2400/dp/B00ARM97PU

I guess I'm a cheap **** but no way I'm paying that much for a remote when I have close to that in the gear itself. So I see universal remotes in walmart and best buy all the time. I have one for the TV stuff but I notice they don't control audio equipment. Is the only option finding an original or these ready remotes? On a side note..... I'm now looking for some 2 channel amps on eBay, here, and CL.

Hope in this case im wrong but.... I have found most ( "all"in my case) non- original remotes for pre especialy processors will not run all functions ( usually the most important ones) the price they charge for the correct remotes is because they have them and you need them! Been there! I always search the remote cost and availabilty first before bidding. Past expierance has taught me this. On a lighter note
... I know where all those missing remotes go!!! They are with all those socks that go missing from the dryer!

Find a different universal remote. The good ones have codes for most of the common equipment and are much cheaper than Harmony. I have used a couple of URC-R6 remotes, bought used cheap off Ebay. They worked great. Sony also made a few cheap ones that had a pretty extensive database. One4All also had quite a few inexpensive remotes with a good database.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

Picked up a Logitech Harmony 650 and am happy with it. For $35 delivered I can adjust the volume of the Carver from the exercise bike or the bed. Which is what I wanted. It doesn't work perfect but then again I don't know what I'm doing. Thanks for the suggestion. Going to eventually try it on other equipment and see how it works with them.
