So my HCA1500 just got here. Hooked it to the pre-outs on my NAD C375BEE and the difference was quickly apparent. This power amp smoked the C375 and it only cost me $375. Needless to say the NAD is going back. So since you guys gave me the great suggestion of the HCA-1500A I come back to you to ask you to suggest me a pre amp. There seem to be so many options in the $1000 dollar range. My only real need is a DAC with USB and Coaxial. I've looked at the P5 from parasound, the peachtree audio decco integrated amp to use as a pre, and I've even considered getting an OPPO BDP-105 to use as a pre amp. You guys haven't steered me wrong yet, what would you suggest?

I got a Parasound PL/D-1100 and really happy with it. Plus, it's visually and sonically matched to the HCA-1500a! That counts for something, right :p

If you want to save a little I'd even consider a Parasound P-3 or if you can swing it nothing wrong with the P5! but take a look at Mikeys PL/D-1100. I recommend a Vincent SA-31 like I have except I think I go all parasound since that is what your amp is.

Now I have a Peachtree Decco65 and I would not recommend it for a preamp as it doesn't have enough connection (1 analog input) but it does has a great dac.

Yes, 2 channel. The P5 seems to be the front runner. I don't really need more than one analog input and I don't think I will ever tinker with vinyl. Most, if not all of my listening will be through a digital source. Anyone have any idea how the DACs in the Parasound P5 and the Peachtree Nova Pre or Decco65 would compare?

If you did want a peachtree I'd go to their ebay store & buy a refurbished for a lot less then new.. :) now the Peachtree uses the Ess Sabre dac which is a good DAC. Rick88 just got a p5 so you could ask him about its DAC as it doesn't really say what DAC it has!

Cambridge Audio Azur 851D - have to find a used model as new ones go for 1400 give or take. They also make a model that has a CD player built in on top of the DAC/Pre-amp features but its 1800....
