Saw these today in CT (no affiliation):

http://newhaven.craigslist.org/ele/4503386545.html

$500 seems very steep to me. They seem to be in great condition and I've been jonesing to get some SDAs back in my house. What should be the top asking price on these?

These appear not to have been modified, but they also seem to be in good condition.

Does the lister have the interconnect?

    Can you audition them?

If on inspection and audition they are what they appear to be, and if they have the interconnect, then I would say $500 is a fair price, but you might try to haggle the lister down a bit.

I love my mod'd 1Cs. Even if he won't come down on the price, you are not likely to see another pair of these in that location for some time (I assume you live near enough to New Haven for local pick up).

It all depends on how much you would like to have thee SDAs in your home.
Family Room, Innuos Statement streamer (Roon Core) with Morrow Audio USB cable to McIntosh MC 2700 pre with DC2 Digital Audio Module; AQ Sky XLRs to CAT 600.2 dualmono amp, Morrow Elite Speaker Cables to NOLA Baby Grand Reference Gold 3 speakers. Power source for all components: Silver Circle Audio Pure Power One with dedicated 20 amp circuit to main panel.

Exercise Room, Innuos Streamer via Cat 6 cable connection to PS Audio PerfectWave MkII DAC w/Bridge II, AQ King Cobra RCAs to Perreaux PMF3150 amp (fully restored and upgraded by Jeffrey Jackson, Precision Audio Labs), Supra Rondo 4x2.5 Speaker Cables to SDA 1Cs (Vr3 Mods Xovers and other mods.), Dreadnaught with Supra Rondo 4x2.5 interconnect cables by Vr3 Mods. Power for each component from dedicated 20 amp circuit to main panel, except Innuos Statement powered from Silver Circle Audio Pure Power One.

I paid $250 for unmodded 1C's with the interconnect. It's your call, but in the greater NYC area you will eventually find them cheaper if you keep looking. It also depends how far you are willing to drive. I live in CT, and drove to NJ to get them.
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

It's a little steep for me plus it's a bit of a hike as well. I'll keep my eyes open for something closer. Thanks for the input.

$500 is not out of hand for 1Cs. Would $400-$450 be better? Sure. But they're not falling off trees these days!

Also $250 for a pair today, is a little "unrealistic"! That's a bargain basement price. Kudos to you if you got them at that price!

I've always seen the 1Cs as an SDA sweet spot. That's where I would go if I decided to get rid of my 2s, and stop! Don't have room for anything bigger, and don't need it.

^^ Agree ^^ I recently picked up un-modded 1c's for $225 local off CL but I have been looking for 2 years and bought them the same day they were posted I think. The going rate "deal" seems to be much more in the $400-$450 range and commonly I've seen them at $5-600 or more.

I'm sure your 1Cs are lovely and that you're a fine fellow, but from the site's selling guidelines:
