Oppo 103D Darbee Edition and a 37" LCD TV

Hello everyone.
I am thinking of getting the Oppo 103 or 103D and wonder if the Darbee Edition is worth having on a smaller LCD TV. I have a 37" Sharp Aquos 1920 x 1080. It is about 7 years old. The salesman at Oppo said that 32" was too small to benefit, that Darbee comes into its own at 44" or larger. He was noncommittal about 37". Is anyone here using a 103 Darbee Edition or Darblet on a 37" LCD? Is it worth the extra cost?

TV too small to really notice the effect of using the Darbee. I would just buy the 103 and call it a day.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

That screen size is probably too small to benefit from the D like's been said, but it's also 7 years old and not likely long for this world. If you have space constraints that prevent you from ever going bigger than 37" when your Aquos gives up the ghost, I'd save the $100. If you're going to a bigger screen, go for the D. All depends on the future plans for your next display I'd say.

I appreciate the idea of future planning for a larger TV. My next one will be a 50-55". But I will not get a new one until this one is no longer repairable at a reasonable cost. (My previous TV was a 1979 Curtis Mathes console that I gave up on when broadcasts went digital.) I have wondered how long these new-fangled flat panels will last. Does anyone here know? By comparison, I have two Apple LCD displays (9 & 8 years old) which are on 10 hours/day, 365 days/year. So it could be awhile before the 50" upgrade.
After 5 years I think the lack of firmware updates becomes an issue. It may not pay to get to far ahead of my other gear.5.1 System:

I'd go ahead and get it. Even if you cant tell the difference it will help you when either you buy a new TV, or if you decide to part with it for some reason, its a nice selling feature..."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963)

I just ordered a refurbished BDP-103 (non Darbee), $433 including shipping. My decision was mostly based on build quality and service reputation. I spent way too much time trying to figure out my Panny's problems, and then deciding on a replacement. I hope I won't have to do it again for a good long time. The 103 also strikes me as such a versatile device that I will not be caught short with just about any format.
Thanks for all your help.
