Actually, that was Friday ( I think). Celebrated tonight by having a few glasses of red and playing it a room filling volume. Still sounds sweet

The pic used on the album cover showed Paul out of step with the others. Was supposed to be one of the signs that Paul was dead (remember that brouhaha?)."Science is suppose to explain observations not dismiss them as impossible" - Norm on AA; 2.3TL's w/sonicaps/mills/jantzen inductors, Gimpod's boards, Lg Solen SDA inductors, RD-0198's, MW's dynamatted, Armaflex speaker gaskets, H-nuts, brass spikes, Cardas CCGR BP's, upgraded IC Cable, Black Hole Damping Sheet strips, interior of cabinets sealed with Loctite Power Grab, AI-1 interface with 1000VA A-L transformer

Does it have the little red berries on the back cover (can't remember exactly where)?
Taken from a recent Audioholics reply regarding "Club Polk" and Polk speakers:
"I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion."
My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

Imagine what the "Paul is Dead" imbroglio* would've been like in the Internet Age! :-O
EDIT: oh, heh-heh, I just remembered stuff like this: http://digilander.libero.it/jamespaul/fc1.html
* You already used "brouhaha"; I am a little off-the-mark with "imbroglio", but it's close enough and it's a great word! ;-)
EDIT: On topic, just as noted by another poster above, I have numerous copies of Abbey Road on licorice pizza... including the one I got when it was a current album (and which is beat to snot, unfortunately). Would love to have an early UK pressing, someday... -
I never bought into the Paul is dead theory. How would they ever find a double with the musical ability Paul has? IMHO one of the great bass players and vocalists of his era."Science is suppose to explain observations not dismiss them as impossible" - Norm on AA; 2.3TL's w/sonicaps/mills/jantzen inductors, Gimpod's boards, Lg Solen SDA inductors, RD-0198's, MW's dynamatted, Armaflex speaker gaskets, H-nuts, brass spikes, Cardas CCGR BP's, upgraded IC Cable, Black Hole Damping Sheet strips, interior of cabinets sealed with Loctite Power Grab, AI-1 interface with 1000VA A-L transformer

Well, arguably, they didn't... I mean, "real Paul" wrote Yesterday and Eleanor Rigby and Helter Skelter and the middle section of A Day in the Life -- and "fake Paul" wrote... you know... Silly Love Songs and Someone's Knockin' at the Door and... well, you get the picture...
;-)
I think the best hypothesis, given their cleverness, snarkiness, and generally mischievous ways, that the Fab Four themselves were most likely the source of the rumor. Here's a pretty good dissection of "Paul is Dead" (IMO): http://www.museumofhoaxes.com/hoax/archive/permalink/paul_is_dead -
Vocalist, songwriter, performer absolutely one of the best but one of the best bass players hardly. Try Jack Cassady, Phil Lesh, Jack Bruce,Harvey Brooks, Stanley CLarke,Jon Squire,John Entwistle,Rodger Waters, Jaco Pastrious. Just a smattering of much better technically and talented bass players of that era. Yes subjective like music it'self and believe me I'm not minimizing Paul's contribution to music at all.
I'm also amazed it's been 45 years ,for the time one of the better produed albums.2chl- Adcom GFA- 555-Onkyo P-3150v pre/amp- JVC-QL-A200 tt- Denon 1940 ci cdp- Adcom GFS-6 -Modded '87 SDA 2Bs - Dynamat Ext.- BH-5- X-Overs VR-3, RDO-194 tweeters, Larry's Rings, Speakon/Neutrik I/C- Cherry stain tops Advent Maestros,Ohm model E

Well - I wouldn't consider Sir Paul 'one of the best' bassists, either -- but he was an interesting and (I would argue) inventive player of rock and roll bass of his time. Listen to the bass parts, e.g., on the Sgt. Pepper's album; more interesting than the usual blump, blump, blump bass that was much more common in the era.
FWIW, Entwistle is my personal favorite rock bassist, but poor Jaco Pastorius sure is something to hear on Shadows and Light! ;-) -

All those guys are great, some even my favorites. The reason I put Paul up there is his phrasing and melodic playing. Listen to the bass on Rain, almost any song on Abbey Road, Paperback Writer. His parts are usually one of the most interesting aspects of the song - IMO of course."Science is suppose to explain observations not dismiss them as impossible" - Norm on AA; 2.3TL's w/sonicaps/mills/jantzen inductors, Gimpod's boards, Lg Solen SDA inductors, RD-0198's, MW's dynamatted, Armaflex speaker gaskets, H-nuts, brass spikes, Cardas CCGR BP's, upgraded IC Cable, Black Hole Damping Sheet strips, interior of cabinets sealed with Loctite Power Grab, AI-1 interface with 1000VA A-L transformer -
Your examples are better than my generalities :-) ... best of all, thinking of those bass parts, I'd definitely class them as "interesting"; lively, even. Definitely more interesting than the average for their time.
