It sounds like the previous owner blew it. Those blow when speaker cables get crossed when hooking up with the amp on. I would replace the fuse with exact replacement and power up without a speaker on it to see if it will hold. If it holds, power it down, hook up a speaker and try it out. I blew a rail fuse on one of my Odyssey amps doing just what I explained, it happens.

If it blows when replaced, you got a faulty amp.

Forgive me if this is too obvious: Be extra sure to get the correct fuse replacement value and type (slow or fast blow).

Hope it's just a fuse and nothing deeper!

OK....so new fuse in turned on let it run for about 15 mins and fuse held....So next step put it back in the system and see what happens...

I will bet you are okay to go. I think the seller, touched the speaker cable +&- together on that channel with the amp on before he turned it off. They put that fuse in for times like this.

How did this turn out? I have some older B&K gear myself, and wonder about repairs if it ever goes bad. Hope you got it repaired without much bother or cost. Doubly hope the previous owner didn't knowingly take you for ride.

I am not the OP obviously but I have some insight here...

If I had B&K gear I'd do the following:

    1. Contact B&K for the service manuals for your gear. The B&K website lists a contact for that stuff. I recently used it to get both an Owners Manual and a Service Schematic for my B&K 200.5. The guy was very responsive to my inquiries and very helpful.

    2. I'd also look at the schematic (or have someone who knows what it means) and have them see what parts are hard to find.

    3. Once I had that list, I'd contact that same person to get contact info for places to look for those parts and buy as many as you can extra. I dont have the companies name in front of me, but he gave me a company name and phone number to contact (which I passed along to my tech).

I say this because my 200.5 had an issue and blew a channel as well. I have a local tech whose quite skilled at repairs and with the contact info and the schematic he was able to repair the blown output transistors on that one channel. He didn't seem to think there was anything super tricky about the way the amp was put together, just time consuming taking it apart for the fix.

For me the total cost was 140 including parts. So its NOT super expensive to repair (provided its just one channel), but my tech also let me know that some of the parts were becoming harder to find (because of the large quantity of fakes on the eBay market) so he had to pay a nice markup to get legit transistors and have them shipped from Cali. The parts cost was 40 bucks for 2 transistors and JFet's (IIRC).

I plan to stock up on some as a just in case so I have them.

Anyway thought I'd weigh in since I recently had a B&K repair experience.

that is EXCELLENT information and a great recommendation. I have a couple of pieces of B&K gear. probably need to find a good local repair guy. how does one determine whether a repair shop is good? guess that's tricky.

I worked through my local trusted contacts to find one. Thankfully a couple guys I know and trust had used this person before for some stuff and his name was one I had heard a couple different times.

This guy builds custom tube amps and repairs a lot of vintage hi fi (tube radio's, keyboards, turntable's, etc). It is nice he's in my backyard basically otherwise not sure what I would do.

I am sure you can send it back to them to look at repair, but since my 200.5 is 78 lbs and quite a monster that would be VERY expensive to ship it, let alone a total overhaul on it.
