Stylus with a brush that clips onto stylus. Ive had & seen these before & was wondering what they are called & where would you find them online to buy.. Do you use them-do they work for you ? Hunted some & came up with nothing except dustbug or something like that. TIA

Another question. I would like to upgrade my stylus on a Empire 2000Eiii & keep it at a budget of under 200.00 range OR do you think i should keep using the cheap stylus for now & upgrade my cart & stylus on Marantz 6300 when i can afford it ?..

Some Stantons and Pickerings (others?) came with the brush integrated into the stylus. I recently bought a replacement Jico stylus for the Stanton 881S cartridge that came with a turntable I came into rather recently. It was not an inexpensive stylus, and it sounds very nice, but I had to remove the brush to make it so. Somehow the brush hinge was allowing a whining vibration to come through the speakers that was very evident in the silence between tracks on each album. If you use a NOS stylus that has a brush, I'm sure it wouldn't be an issue.
The dust bug has its own arm, I believe. Helps with dust and perhaps static? I haven't used one, but I know SCompRacer uses one on his modded Lenco.
Not sure about your Empire question. There are plenty of people who like Empire carts, but I don't have experience (although I do have a 999 S/EX that came on a turntable that I've never used; its stylus needs replacement). It appears that original replacements are available, here's one place: http://www.adelcom.net/EmpireStylus1.htm Depending on your budget, you may find that very reasonable or out of your league. If you've been able to hear the Empire in a fully working state and you like it, a replacement stylus would be a good bet. If it didn't float your boat, I'd recommend saving for something else.
Edit: Poking around a bit I'm not sure that the linked stylus is NOS, so don't take my original thought as fact without doing some verification.
Good luck!

The Shure M97xE cart. has an integral brush/stabilizer. Not a bad cart. and performs on par with much more expensive ones. (**** to mount, though) http://www.amazon.com/Shure-M97xE-High-Performance-Magnetic-Cartridge/dp/B00006I5SB/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1407472418&sr=8-11&keywords=audio+cartridge

Thanks for the info. Jay i have seen those ones with a roller (if thats what their called) you are correct about stylus brush causing problems with vibration. It seemed like the Pioneer was doing just that with a different stylus on it. Maybe i will pass on that thought..... For the Marantz 6300 i need to research more on Empire stylus. The cheap stylus seems to work good BUT was thinking i could get better performance with a better stylus for it. Seems the Empire is hard to get & may save for a change in cart/stylus upgrade...

Randy- you can score a new Shure M97 on Amazon for under $80 fairly often and or get the Orotfon 2M Red for $100. I like the bass of the Shure better myself. The 2M red has a crisper top end. I've used replacement empire needles from ebay and they work ok but have not searched for the higher end of the model lineup.
With the Shure you can use it with the brush down or in the up position. It does clean the path a little and helps with playback of slightly warped records due to higher tracking force to a certain extent when in the down position. On another note, your tapes went out Wednesday via FedEx. I'll pm you tracking info in a bit.2-ch System: Parasound P/LD 2000 pre, Parasound HCA-1000 amp, Parasound T/DQ Tuner, Phase Technology PC-100 Tower speakers, Technics SL-1600 Turntable, Denon 2910 SACD/CD player, Peachtree DAC iT and X1asynchorus USB converter, HSU VTF-3 subwoofer. -
Thanks .i will probably go that route maybe with a nice cart. I think it will be worth the coin. No need to send track # as long as you have them. Thanks looking forward to the JFK one..
