need help please
I have a Onkyo tx-709 receiver & Polk tsi-400 for my fronts a polk psw110 sub & axiom qs4 . My friend just gave me a pr of polk fxi-a4's . My question is should I put the a4's as sides or back surround's or the qs4 in the back or on the side ? And what should I set the a4's as dipole or bipole depending on wher I put them ? Or should I just go back to 5.1 & witch pr of speakers should I keep ? And should I put them on side or back wall ? Thank you for any help you can give me !!!!

Since I have the Fxi3. I literally took me a week to finally come to a decision.
my advice is to experiment with your favorite movies/music. On sides, in back, dipole, bipole.
It is a room sensitive speaker (in my opinion they are a fantastic speaker non the less just takes time to
Decide what sounds best.
My wife was constantly saying
" seriously babe, it sounds fine wherever"
I said- " no it doesn't, please just let me do my man thing.
I am not moving furniture and pictures around, like you do.
Let alone releveling every picture".
Hope that helps. As it is a little tricky.
It was funny.

Room size and any irregularities would help

/\ yep/\
Also it is rule of thumb is keep speaker atleast 2ft from any corner part of room
And no higher than 24" above ear when seated. Ear level or slightly above works best in my case.Polk Lsi9

I have the FXi-5's which are slightly larger than the 4's. I have mine as back surrounds and they sound great. I have Monitor 70's up front as well as a CS20 center speaker. The drivers all match perfectly and blend seamlessly. I did not try them as side surrounds as my room layout prevents that option. I would definitely have tried them on the sides if I could have. As for Bipole or dipole, I change all the time. If I am listening to music I set them on bipole, for movies it's dipole. Heck even my teenage daughters automatically check to make sure they are set to dipole before we put in a movie. I guess I trained them well. Regardless of where you place them, I am sure you will love them. Heck of a friend you have there, wish I had one like that!

What do you think about the axiom a4's will these work well for this set up ? Or should I go back to 5.1 ? And is it true to put spk marked left on the right side & the one marked right on the left ? -
my room is 28 ft long 16' 2" wide & 8ft high . No irregularities hope this info helps & your help is welcome thank you.

Sorry it took me so long to reply, I have been out of town working. The qs-4's seem like very highly regarded surround speakers. I would experiment with them and the Fxi-3's shuttling between side and back surround duties. I would try music and movies, and change the fxi-3's from bipole to dipole using the same media. Logic tells me the axiom's might be a little less sensitive to placement than the fxi-3's. Unless there is an obvious distracting change in timbre between the axiom's and your polk speakers, I see no reason for you to go back to 5.1. It might a pain in the you know what, but when you are done you will know you have the right speakers in the right place. I would use a sound pressure monitor to isolate any big differences in output.

What center speaker are you running? Also, I meant your Fxi- a4's not Fxi-3's in my post above. As for putting a speaker marked left on the right, and right on the left... from my understanding rear speakers are marked so they are on your left or right as you are facing the screen, or front speakers.
