Reminds me of the new guy, scubby.Political Correctness'.........defined
"A doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a t-u-r-d by the clean end."
President of Club Polk -
My dad had a Ford LTD wagon back in the day that caught fire and burned at the dealership while the car was being moved from the lube rack to the wash bay back in the early 80's, and I had a 1980 T-bird that did the same thing while I was on the freeway...

Ummm...that's a test mule on a pre-production vehicle obviously going through testing.
To base the worth of an entire company's products on a test vehicle failing a test is absurd.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

Like that's any better? 1980 was 34 years ago. Things change.
And it's implied since he's associating these incidents from 30+ years ago with the current photos posted. Especially since two silly jokes implied nothing in regards to previous issues with fires. You'd think the genius would have thought to reference the brake master cylinder problems from 1999-2004 if he really want to talk about a propensity for self-immolation.
I'm not on any Ford kick here. I'm on an anti-stupid kick.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

Found On Road Dead for a reason...
I know this was just a prototype, and that it will be corrected before production. When you are behind the wheel and smoke starts coming through the fascia vents and from under the bottom of the windshield, it makes you think. When you watch a bunch of personal belongings turn to ashes and hear tires pop from the heat, and smell the burnt out hulk of what was your car, you vow to never do that again.
The cause of the fires in both the LTD and the T-bird were known to Ford at the time. The fuel lines were not up to the job in a Minnesota climate, given their proximity to the exhaust system and the extreme changes in temperature/ road salts etc... They became brittle from the heat, cracked and poof, the car was gone. The Gear... WTF? I see at least 500 gallons of water and what looks like a brand new fire extinguisher in those pics.

I cannot count the number of fords that have been in my family. No major problems with any of them. I think there are good and bad things in any and all manufacturing. My personal preference in trucks is Ford. Cars is VW and other German makes. That is signature material right there.....however, I would hardly call someone stupid for posting opinions. Whether or not you agree is a different matter, but his personal experience has been one of unreliability and danger associated with 2 Ford automobiles and will not buy again. Is that any different than anyone else? You only get one chance to make a first impression and his first impression was bad. So was his second by the way.......
I bear no allegiance to any auto company. If i like the car or truck and i can afford it then anything is fair game. I own a honda car, a honda minivan and a nissan truck. Would buy the hondas over again but not the truck because of MY experience. I will tell you though, if I was shopping for a ford truck right now, someone would have to do a lot of convincing for me to get those pictures out of my head and spend my money that way.............not any different than John's experience with Fords and the reason why he won't buy again. I don't think stupid is the right way to describe someone for basing opinion on personal experience.Shawn

I see they're using Magnesium somewhere in the front end."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

I always thought Ford stood for F***er Only Runs Downhill? I had a first gen Explorer for a while, unfortunately I wasn't lucky enough to get one with a manual Mazda made transmission. I had Ford's own automatic instead. The engine still pulled strong and didn't burn oil when I had to junk it. Wasn't worth rebuilding the transmission or replacing with another unknown abused transmission from a junkyard vs just getting a different vehicle. My girlfriend at the time called it Dora the Explorer. Took us camping and all sorts of memories in that thing. I wouldn't buy another one though.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

Well, Pontiac made the Fire-ero. And yes, the front structural panel that the headlights and radiator mount to is a magnesium piece. I had to have mine replaced after a deer barreled into my F150 (great brakes, I made it to a stop, the deer did not) and it pushed in the headlight hard enough to break it.DKG999
