So just got back from Wamart, (Mountain Dew run) as always checked out the 5 dollar Cd bin found nothing but did notice the new Tom Petty CD Hypnotic Eye. I held it in my hands looked at the tracks and put it back hoping to hear if anyone else has heard it and is it another muddled mess crippled by the loudness wars. I have no doubt that it is good music when Mike Cambell is on it, just wondering how the sound quality is, Mojo is ok so I'm wondering how this is, anyone have it yet?

The music itself is outstanding. I have been listening non-stop the past few days.

However, I have been streaming from Spotify, so can't comment on the SQ.

There is a pretty intense thread over at Hoffman, though. I believe something about the Petty camp said the regular cd was mixed more for the ipod crowd, but the vinyl and the BR audio is for the audiophile crowd. You'll have to check it out to be sure, though.

Fault Lines, Forgotten Man, You Get Me High are worth the price of admission. The whole album is great.

I just checked Quboz. It's on there @ 16/44.1. I'm out the door now, but as a Petty fan I will try to listen tonight, and then give an opinion.

I like the album personally, if you liked Mojo at all you'd probably like it. I haven't heard good things about the cd however...loud and compressed are words that are tossed around a lot. I have the blu-ray, sound is excellent. Also, one of the better songs IMO is Playin' Dumb, which is a bonus track on BD, vinyl, and hi res only, not found on the cd. Also, blu-ray (and I assume digital files) have the MC mix.

Yeah glad I didn't get the CD I'm either going to get the vinyl or the Blu Ray 5.1 off Pettys website, haven never owned a Blu Ray music disc I just might go that route what do you see on the screen still shots or song titles? I guess I could just leave the tv off if there's no video content right?

On Tom Petty's "Damn the Torpedoes" BR it pops up showing the song title and some info on it then goes into a screen saver mode, its the only one I have that does this... not sure if the "Hypnotic Eye" does this or not.

I wish the all did this. most just stay on the screen.

This BD is like his other two, you'll need the video to set audio preference, stereo is default. Hit play or toggle to song selection. Song title will stay on for 30 seconds then it goes to an album cover screen saver. Once set, you can shut off your display. I go pure audio on my Oppo which shuts down the video

It’s definitely a solid TP album. I have the vinyl and think the sound quality is excellent. The funny thing is when I bought this lp I also picked up a vinyl copy of TP’s Mudcrutch. I like the Mudcrutch lp better then Hypnotic Eye, a lot better.

Just picked it up on the way home from work, I wanted the Blu-Ray but did not one to be tied down to just playing it on the Oppo and HT rig I have a turntable hooked up to that, but also on a couple of other 2 channel rigs with turntables so I can play the vinyl in different locations.

It is a west German Pressing on the Reprise label says recorded in High fidelity and the guy at the store says the CD sounds terrible that this was the best choice, I'm digging it been swapping power cords on the Adcom seeing if I can tell a difference on three different ones I can, my Signal Magic power Cord is the one I'm using right now and will be staying with.

    Nice!!
I just started to listen to the new album on spotify last week.
So far so good. It has been awhile. Funny how a lot of CD's now
Are getting more trashy. I listen to a lot of film scores/soundtrack
I bought the new star trek score on CD, I thought something was wrong lol.
I bought a track of iTunes(which is Rare nowdays). The track sounded better
Than the CD. Ultimately I ended up biy the whole score again from HDtracks. Much better now.

    I don't have a turntable(yet lol)
