Ok so as the title says I was given this TT by a friend. Technics SL-QD33. It's missing all the cords but looks decent.
Over look the junk on the table. So I see it uses what looks like a special cable with a seperate ground. Also a removable power cord. Neither of which came with said TT. So is this s good TT for my son's bedroom system? Sugesstions on where to get cords?

Technics are decent tables & that ground cord is around 9-15.00 (ebay model number & ground cord-plug Goodwill or Ebay) to your mailbox. If your looking to save it. Nice tt..

With a good cartridge that DD Technics will rival most lower to lower mid-level tables from that period of time. And they're almost indestructible. There isn't much you can do to them short of dropping them to end their life.
Quartz lock speed means you never have to worry about that. It was rumored that had TTs not gone out of phase for a while that Technics was considering upping the P-mount tech to their best tables and producing higher end cartridges. Alas, that did not happen. But they are among the MOST user friendly tables EVER made! There is literally "nothing" to do. No weight to set, no skating to correct for, no speed correction, and no need for a protractor, because the P-mount snaps into a universal socket at the correct distance, always!
It's a great table, I keep a slightly higher model in reserve and a backup because I know it will never fail.
The PERFECT entry table for your son!

Wow I did not even realize that it didnt have pitch control till I read your post cnh. Even more excited about this for him. Come to think of it that power cord does resemble the cords of the boom box era! I probably have on laying around. RCA's are easy enough. I did find this with a quick google.

Those later Technics tts don't have much of a reputation... but they're perfectly decent record players; I collect 'em whenever I stumble across one (typically, in my experience, the belt drives -- at least as freebies); they're the perfect gateway drug for a young'un who wants to "try the vinyls" ;-)
You done good, IMO! :-)
You might want to try a P-mount Grado black in there if you wanna spend a few shekels on it...
EDIT: For best results, use "interconnects" that are low-capacitance, and/or (to be on the safe side) keep 'em short (1 meter or - preferably - even less); else one runs the risk of high-frequency rolloff due to the filtering effect of the cables' capacitance (i.e., in the case of very low-level signals, cables actually do matter) ;-)
