7.2 set up using ceiling speakers for SR and SL

I have good placement for my front stage andback surround for my 7.2 setup, however, there is not a good place in the room for my Sr and SL. Was wondering if using two in ceiling speakers would be a good option or would they be mounted too high?

Ceiling is fine. It isn't ideal, of course but it is better than not having it at all. If that's your only option, run with it and enjoy the noise.

Using ceiling speakers slightly behind and slightly outward of your listening position is a very good option, typicaly your ceiling is closer to the average distance one would put a Sr and SL, hence the slightly back and slightly outwards (farther out than back :) is better).

I have been using ceiling speakers for many years with outstanding results, pay attention to s/n ratios and size a typical 8 inch ceiling speaker is only a 6.5 due to the conformatie of the exit shape. Purchase the speakers You have investigated and then place them at differant ceiling spots to determine proper placement in ceiling.

tramatech1 - I also have no opportunity for standard wall hung speakers for back and side surrounds. I tried in-ceiling speakers but due to the lower ceiling height in my finished basement area (7'-3'), I just could get them to sound right, specially from the front row seating. Through a lot of experimentation with various speakers, I stumble upon the Mirage Omnipolar speakers, OMD-5, which are awesome little speakers that have great sound quality and throws out the sound in all directions. They take very little wall space to hang (or can be mount using brackets) and are a very compact cabinet design, but look very elegant. Build quality is very high. I use four of these little marvels for my side and rear surrounds. The side surrounds are wall mounted (on a very shallow ceiling soffit and rears are bracket mounted from the ceiling. They blend pretty well with the Polk Rti speakers too. Just another option.....

    The rest is TBD.
