Room Correction vs Setting Up Manually

Can anybody tell me if there is a difference between running YPAO/Audyssey/MCACC vs. an SPL app on my Android tablet and pulling a tape? Is there anything the mic and room correction software can do that an SPL app/meter and tape can't?
