The titular speakers of this thread would be the upgrade from these.

Outer design is vaguely reminiscent of large JBLs? Crossovers are something but, of course, there are different philosophies on crossovers. The one that over-designs them, and the other that seeks to make them less and less relevant or to eliminate them completely in favor of the simplest two way design or, in the latter case, single drivers.

In any case, I bet they put out some BIG sound!

Oh, and if speakers should cost even more, I'll take whatever mhardy is drinking? lol

Crossovers? Yeah, I'm working on that.

Those speakers are prototypes from years back.

All I know is if I had a pair of speakers I thought were worth $75k, I wouldn't have hundreds of pounds of gear AND a coffee mug sitting on it, especially if I'm taking a picture.

LOL....Yeah man, agreed. Still, I'm not seeing 75k worth of speaker there. Yeah top notch drivers and custom crossovers....ok, but 75k ? If I had 75k to spend I'd buy 2 foreclosed condos and rent them out for some income....while I listen to some vintage Polks.

Looks like about 10-15k in drivers; the cabs could be done by just about anyone with some woodworking skills; crossovers are always tricky to put a price on. The parts are easy to add up, but the R&D of getting it right is the tricky part. But I'm not seeing $60K of it there.

Or put in perspective, that's Grande Utopia price bracket:

With those uptopia speakers you can really hear the cab's as it just gets in the way of the music. Not a speaker for late night listening thats for sure.

You could get two pair of Wilson Alexia's at that price. Just saying.

Or about 75 pairs of our beloved 6311's.

And the Japanese love those big horn-loaded JBLs. To the point that JBL, until recent years, made those giant horn-loaded speakers, such as the JBL Everest DD66000, only for the Japanese market.

Which, I believe, is the reason why Pioneer's Exclusive line was only for domestic consumption....they are catered to the super-rich audiophiles. Check out these other Pioneer Exclusive components:

Actually, the Everest IIs can be had in the US market. In fact, my buddy's shop has 4 pairs in stock as I type this with one pair on closeout in Rosewood for $25,000. Their demo pair coupled with a pair of Audio Research Reference 600 monoblocks is something to behold and quite possibly one of my lottery winnings systems. Heh.

They're TAD 1601's, I believe. Which have nearly identical specs, but cost twice as much.

Not sure what it is but I am drawn to these more so than many other exotic speaker myself. I never heard them but....If I ever hit, I think I will have to try a pair of these in the dedicated listening loft! LOL!!!

75k? No way, I would pass. Even if they were the best sounding speakers I've ever heard I wouldn't want them trashing up my house. At that asking price you're in some serious territory. I would rather have some high end utopia speakers or some high end B&Ws.
