I'm wondering if these are supposed to be there or if someone did this. I noticed they sounded strange so I pulled the offending driver and this is what I found

These are 6511's on the 2.3's I pulled a 6511 out of my 1c's and it does not have this extra magnet.

If I am not mistaken they are to shield an old CRT TV from the effects of the speaker magnets. I'm not 100% though.

Well the glue has failed and they are making the cones scrape the coil as they misalign. Would it be OK to remove them?

Ok thanks guys I was really scratching my head about this. I'm going to epoxy the driver magnets in place before I remove these just to ensure no movement takes place.

I will for sure. I just got a set of 1c's that rub the coils when you push them in and out so I am going to call polk and get some replacements and some backups. Luckily it looks like the 2.3 and the 1c share a lot of similar drivers so that should work well.

I have a feeling someone added the buckling magnets to the drivers

It was an option from Polk. You could also order them separately and install them yourself.

I'm not so sure the off center bucking magnets are the cause of the rubbing.

The 1c don't have the buckling magnets. Just rubbing coils. The 2.3 only had that 1that was out of alignment and with it removed there is no rub

The 1c had a dented in dust cap on the driver that was rubbing so I figured it just needed to be replaced

The opposing poles of the magnets were face to face (N to N or S to S. Not sure of the polarity but the buckling magnets was repelled from the back of the driver) however with it slid off to one side like it was the Magnet is actually attracted to the driver.

There is no way a bucking magnet is going to cause the voice coil to rub, the glue on the main magnet of the driver will have given out.

    I misspelled.
Correct should be bucking, not buckling.

The VC must have gone through the original magnet all the way outside for that to happen.
