I am trying to utilize my multi room pre outs and hook up another system in a couple rooms. I can't get it to work. Do I need a pre amp for that signal or can i hook up the rca's straight to a power amp? Pretty sure the Marantz can control the volume for
the multi room signal cause it asks you source and the asks you about volume. The manual is confusing. I think in one section it says you can only use multi room if you have another MARANTZ amp and remote. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks. Wade

I've got a 7001... maybe? Whatever their almost latest is.
1)You do not need a marantz amp for that, any power amp will do
2)You need to turn on the zone and turn up the volume. You *might* need a second marantz remote for that. On mine there's a zone select button, which kicks the volume control over to zone 2 (or 3) for about 5 seconds. But I know on some older gear, they made you use a separate remote... but a universal remote should have codes for zone 2, so look into that.Gallo Ref 3.1 : Bryston 4b SST : Musical fidelity CD Pre : VPI HW-19

OK, page 32 here:

You can use it with or without a pre amp (fixed=with, variable=without); you'll need to activate it and set the source. The other thing that might be **** you up: it will NOT output a digital source. So if you have a DVD or CD player hooked up with optical/coax digital, you need to run analog/RCA cables, too, for it to output in the zone 2.Gallo Ref 3.1 : Bryston 4b SST : Musical fidelity CD Pre : VPI HW-19

Thank you for the reply. My unit does not use the term "zones" but I know what corresponds on my sr5001. That digital source
IN may be the problem. I have only been using HDMI as source. I will try and use an analog IN so that it matches the analog
OUT. Thanks again. Will let you know how that works.KEF Q50 mains, M&K center, Boston Acoustics surround, Marantz SR6007 pre, Emotiva UPA-700, Pioneer DV-46AV, Samsung BD-j7500, Sunfire HRS12 subwoofer -
Thank you, unc2701! That is exactly what was wrong. Now knowing I can control a second zone, I am going to purchase the
Emotiva upa-700 instead of the upa-500. I will use the extra two channels for this second zone. That along with a switcher and i
can power the rest of the house/outside.KEF Q50 mains, M&K center, Boston Acoustics surround, Marantz SR6007 pre, Emotiva UPA-700, Pioneer DV-46AV, Samsung BD-j7500, Sunfire HRS12 subwoofer -
No problem. I've run into the same issue a few times. I don't know of any pre-/pros or receivers that will output digital sources on analog zone 2 outputs. One of the reasons that I got the Marantz I have is that it has an HDMI zone 2... BUT it won't output analog inputs on that zone 2 HDMI- only ones that come in as HDMI.
Anyhow, enjoy the tunes.Gallo Ref 3.1 : Bryston 4b SST : Musical fidelity CD Pre : VPI HW-19
