Thanks DSkip...
That's the problem I don't know if they are a good match for my Casta's without listening to them, but he lives about 90min away and I'm sure he won't bring them over for me to try out.
I'll keep thinking about it I'm on vaca after next week so maybe a present to myself if they are still avail next week, lolATC SCM40's,VTL TL 2.5 Preamp,PSB Stratus Goldi's,McCormack DNA 500,McCormack MAP-1 Preamp,Pro-Ject Xtension 10 TT,Ortofon Cadenza Red/Nordost RedDawn LS Speaker cables, Bryston BDP-2, Bryston BDA-2,PS Audio AC-3 power cables -
I'm a fan of the Cary "sound" so I may be partial but if you can have the dude give you an audition on his system before you buy, that would go a long way.HT SYSTEM-

Hey Tony, that's all fine and dandy but that only shows me how good they match HIS speakers..
I've never heard any Cary gear before..and from what I've read and people telling me SET amps are picky about speaker matching impedance.I'm a fan of the Cary "sound" so I may be partial but if you can have the dude give you an audition on his system before you buy, that would go a long way.ATC SCM40's,VTL TL 2.5 Preamp,PSB Stratus Goldi's,McCormack DNA 500,McCormack MAP-1 Preamp,Pro-Ject Xtension 10 TT,Ortofon Cadenza Red/Nordost RedDawn LS Speaker cables, Bryston BDP-2, Bryston BDA-2,PS Audio AC-3 power cables -
Yeah, they are pal, just take note of his gear is all. Your speaks should pair up well and let that Cary sound shine threw. The only part I would pay attention to, and that's just me, is the lower bass notes. Some can do them well, fast, while others are a tad more rounded, slower sounding. Cary tends to sound a tad more rounded than some but less than others in that department. Still, their midrange and highs, separation and soundstage is to die for in my opinion. All depends on your ears and what makes your nuts glow in the dark.HT SYSTEM-

Can you take your speakers to his house?Political Correctness'.........defined

Since he's offering an audition, see if you can take your speakers. Easy to tube roll. You can swap to 6550's which in some designs will give a little more bottom end.2-channel: Modwright KWI-200 Integrated, Dynaudio C1-II Signatures

Don't think you can go wrong either way. If these will be your first tube amps, keep in mind some concerns. They can act as space heaters....some of them anyway. You need to keep check on the bias of the tubes, unlike a tubed pre amp. If you have small children around, it may not be ideal. As noted in another thread, leaving a tube amp on and alone can open you up to a disaster should a tube go south.
If you can deal with that, then the rewards may out weigh the small concerns.HT SYSTEM-

Having got a tube amp for the 1st time I surprised at the weight, and it really is a space heater. and biasing the tubes isn't no fun with a meter in one hand and a wrench in the other, BUT!! its been worth it to me
Take heed of all the warnings, like always having speakers hooked up etc...2 ch- Polk CRS+ * Vincent SA-31MK Preamp * Vincent Sp-331 Amp * Marantz SA8005 SACD * Project Xperience Classic TT * Sumiko Blue Point #2 MC cartridge
