Oh man, that's terrible news. I met Johnny about 8 years ago and he was gracious, signing some albums and taking photos. He was taken advantage of by various people he thought he could trust. Finally, his new manager got things turned around and he was touring extensively to standing ovations at every concert. My buddies just saw him at Jazzfest this spring, but I couldn't make it this year. This is a real loss. A true bluesman, one of the best guitarists ever. RIP Johnny.

I agree, terrible news. I saw him about 12 years ago in Madison, Wisconsin. Great concert. He opened up with Texas Flood. One of my favorite guitarists. RIP Johnny.

Whoa...terrible news...the more I explore his catalog of music the more I respect, admire, and enjoy his music.

I'll have to play something by him today.

Very bad news. 1st Alvin Lee passes from minor surgery and now Johnny Winter @70. One of the best slide players around and played one of my favorite guitars a very old Gibson Firebird. I saw him many times and while some of his sets were short towards the end he definately gave his all, loved to play and was the prienement Texas blues players before both Eric Johnson and Stevie Ray Vaughn.

    RIP JW.

A classic story of 60s-70s rock star rise and fall back when we thought a little drug use was manageable.

A fascinating fact from the SRV biography, the area around austin, beaumont texas was riddled with future rock greats.

You turn right, you are heading to where the zz top boys were, turn left and its the winters brothers, go straight and you would find the vaughn brothers, obviously a little staggered timeline between them, but almost like a great football team that never rebuilt they just reloaded.

Very sad news, one of my all time favorites. I consider "JW And . . . Live" to be among the best live albums ever recorded. Seems like he aged dramatically the last 10 years.

Johnny Winter was one of the great blues guitarists of our time. He died yesterday at age 70. I learned a lot of guitar licks off his records back in the 60's & 70's. I used to slow his LP's down to 16 speed to figure out what he was doing. He will be missed.

Here is another good article about him: http://www.stereophile.com/content/johnny-winter

A funny story from the srv biography, first when older brother Jimmy faound Stevie in the closet messing around with his guitar, he gave him a really good smashing, i mean he was never gonna play it right anyway right?

Also, Jimmys theory on how to play blues guitar was based on the old legends, dont play fast, give the music time, wait between notes, obviously stevie never could do that, and there was always a big fistfight when jimmy would say to Stevie, "You sound like Robin Trower",well thats all it took
