Hi everyone I am having issues blowing fuses in my AMP. I am not fluent in audio terminology and all that but I feel like I have an underpowered AMP or something not right and wanted some help. I have and Onkyo M282 Amp if I understand the specs it says...
General
Power Output 2 x 125 watts/channel into 6 ohm
But then right below it it says this.. 8 ohms.... 2 x 140 W at 8 ohms
This is the link to the page that's got me confused.. http://www.onkyousa.com/Products/model.php?m=M-282&class=Amplifier
The problem I am experiencing is blowing fuses in the AMP when I get the volume up for an extended period (over an hour or so)
If I understand the specs on the Atrium8Sdi correctly I need an amp that will do 10-125W at 8ohms.
I also have a Sherwood RX-4105 100 Watt that feeds the AMP if that matters.
So my question is .. Do I need a bigger or better AMP? Is it really not doing 8ohms? is it only doing 6 Ohms? and if so why is it my fuse keeps blowing in the amp? I apologize for being a noob but hey we got start some where :-) Thanks for any comments they are appreciated.
oh after thought.. I have about 30' of cable running to each speaker from the AMP and its 14 gauge speaker wire (Metra S14-500)If that matters .thanks again

Your amp should be fine power wise. Have you checked all connections ? Is the amp well ventilated ?HT SYSTEM-

I apologize I put this in the wrong section I thought I was in troubleshooting.

Thanks for your response, I have actually checked the connections I used banana connectors on the amp end and just tightened the heck out of the cables on the other end. As far as ventilation I actually have a 9 inch fan that sits right beside it blowing on it like 3 inches away from it on high when were listening to it. When I first added the fan (shortly after the second fuse I replaced) I believe made a difference but it still happens though from time to time. Do you think I am just turning it up to loud? lol Thanks again for the comment. JB

How you have the Sherwood feeding the amp?. That Sherwood does not have pre-outs.

I take the Speaker A left and right output from the Sherwood and cable those directly into the Onkyo left and right input. Is that bad?
-
no kidding.. Well I got scared the Sherwood would not push the speakers by itself. Its just not understanding anything about it I thought more would be better. I got the Sherwood for free and brand new lol I guess I felt like I needed to spend a little money on it. I am headed home in 2 hours to try it out.. I appreciate everyone's time.

So I guess its good the fuse has blown and not my speakers?
-
To put it plainly, I've got a couple grand invested in my pre and power amps, and I respect those little Sherwoods. They are the king of budget stereos IMO. I had a 4109 that now I kind of wish I had kept.
Well I have been under the assumption since it was cheap that I just needed to throw money at the whole thing and my wife is driving me nuts when it doesn't work lol she want to be on the patio with a beverage listening. So I figured well get ready to drop some cash to make the thing work right. again I apprentice everyone's input. -

You take bare wire from the speaker A or B outputs and stick them into the amps RCA inputs ? Your lucky the only thing you blew was a fuse.HT SYSTEM-

Ok I took the AMP completely out of the mix and attached the speakers directly to the Sherwood and it sounded fine. The only problem is. If I start pushing the volume up its starts sounding not that great. Is that a issue with the Sherwood not having enough power? -
For the test I did yesterday afternoon I simply used the FM Stereo from the Sherwood. Now that could be some of it I guess, I normally use and Ipad or android phone and do Pandora. So I could in theory just hook the Ipad or Android directly to the Onkyo via 3.5 to rca. I mainly just use the tuner to have a remote for volume control and the occasional radio listen.

THIS. Let's ignore everything else in the thread until this particular point gets ironed out. You can't feed speaker level output into an RCA input (without an additional device).
If that's the case, you're extremely lucky that nothing else was damaged. If the Sherwood doesn't have an acceptable pre-out, you can use the tape out, with the addition of a speaker volume control like this:

Just be aware that it might not get as loud as you'd like since the tape output is usually lower level.
Alternatively you can use the speaker A/B outputs by adding a box like this:
http://www.amazon.com/High-Speaker-Level-Converter-Black/dp/B005FE0DQ2/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1405610334&sr=8-6&keywords=speaker+level+to+line+level

Completely understood.
I appreciate you making that clear I did not know that until yesterday.
I feel like I see what my choices are and the first thing I need to do is hook up my Ipad or phone and see if the output level from them affects the output level of the Sherwood which would in turn make the speakers louder.
Or it wont make any difference at which point I need to decide to either grab a new tuner with a preamp option or just settle with what I have and it be a little lower than I want. -
You should have no problems with just the Sherwood, you can connect your Ipad or phone up to it and go.HT SYSTEM-
