Every year for the past 12 years I have attended the same event put on by my Jeep club around July 4th. I thought I'd share my trip this year with you guys too. Jeep's are my other nut job passion! Our Event is held every year in Harlan, KY. We basically go ride around a mountain every day for a couple days. this year was a special event because the club turned 15. I usually am joined by my 16 year old twins but they bailed on me this year. So on Thursday after my girlfriend, weird saying that at 46, got off work she drove up to join me sense I was alone. The other reason I thought I would share with you guys is because my Jeep has a set of old Polk's in it too. :)

Loaded up and ready to hit the road.

Harlan, Kentucky? That's very close to my neck of the woods. Do yourself a favor the next time you're there. If you see a backwoods store, walk in and ask to purchase some "apple pie"! You'll thank me later because you're not really going to get pie.

Edit: That looks really fun, BTW.

My buddy Steve and his family own that campground (I SURVIVED BLACK MOUNTAIN t-shirts get sent my way about twice a year lol).
Great place to crash if you're in the area.

I really want to get down that way with my dirtbike.

Yes Harlan, Kentucky. Yes I am very familiar with apple pie. Lots of different recipe's floating around. I'd prefer a quality shine personally. It's a blast. There is a reason I do this every summer for the last 12 years.

What you did on your summer vacation looks like...to me anyway...that you took your Jeep out and beat the crap out of it climbing over rocks, had a few beers by the camp fire, took the Jeep home to fix her up for next year and do it all over again.

I dunno, not my bag, but hey if your rocks get giggled by it....cool.

Pretty spot on except our wheeling is testing our mods to make the wheel better. It's about the wheeling and campfire beers and making the rigs better for wheeling for me.

Jeeps are awesome and a lifestyle. I see places and do things in my Jeep that most people never will do or get a chance to do. the comradory within Jeep owners is generally expneential!

Shouldn't the Jeep be pulling the Ford? Hahaha j/k..

Looks like a blast, I really want to know more about this apple pie??

I took my Taco up to Buena Vista this weekend and went up some trails, nothing like what you do as my truck isn't modded with long travel, just some nice narrow trails with lots of trees, and nice hills to climb. It was nice to finally get this truck out and test it out, it didn't disappoint.

    Thanks for sharing..

I love to trail ride too. My boys just turned 16, twin boys..., and They are both getting jeeps. LOL! I picked up a 98 Limited for $1500 in good shape and runs good just has a few issues, and I have an 88 Comanche that we are going to put together on 33" BFG AT's. I picked it up a few years ago with a blown motor for $500! It's a 2wd that we will convert to 4wd. As for apple pie. It varies. There are different versions made. A lot of people who cannot get the real thing make it with everclear and different things and it tastes like apple pie. Others make it with shine. Basically the shine makers around here have been putting things in it to flavor it. Apples being a popular one. Hence the name apple pie. I have also seen shine flavored with cinnamon which is very good too!

I love the old FJ's! Yota's in general before 85 I really like. Yota's in general though are very capable rigs out of the box.

    Larry, apple pie, generic recipe.

Buy a gallon of real apple cider, remove ~750ml from the gallon, add 750ml of Everclear or vodka or moonshine (I prefer either moonshine or Everclear, my wife preferes vodka), drop in e2 to 3 cinnamon sticks and let ssit in the fridge for a few days. Can be served ice cold or hot.

Very envious of you going there to do that. Here all we have is flat ground as far as the eye can see. I would love to get away from the concrete jungle and just be hustling along the mountains with a group of like minded enthusiasts. I bet there is a really good drining session after a long day of battering the jeep all around that rocky terrain. Awesome post xj and thanks a bunch for sharing with us all.

Concrete jungle? PFB, don't you live in Fargo, ND? Aren't the tallest buildings in town about 8-10 stories there? Can't you be out in the wilderness - polkFARMboy - from anywhere in town in about 15 minutes?

    Hmmmm.....
