Hello Polkies,
I've read up and seem to have a hard time finding a conclusion to this confusion me and a buddy have about the RT800i's and RT55i's. Which would be better for music, movies, etc... seems like what I've read is the 800i's hit lower, but the 55's hit tighter. How much lower, how much tighter? Any other observations? I'm looking at either for mains in a setup. Mostly Electronic Music, some rock, and movies.

One thing I have learned since caring about how I listen to music, it's you ears. Are there better speakers out there than Polk......? Sure there are, and no one brand is a cure all. If you like what your ears are hearing, man, isn't that good enough?? The proverbial rabbit hole is so, so deep, there are speakers out there costing as much and some peoples homes, and ya say.."really"??? and so, do what ya can. A-B those 2 models and don't worry about stepping up to any plates until you are just so curious as to what other brands sound like. The choices are many and there is no "One" brand in the under $10k range that is the best, It's all up to your ears. None of us can hear for you,... Man.... thanks TonyB!!!
"if it's not fun, it's not worth it & remember folks, "It's All About The Music"!!

    What ? What did I do ?

The only thing I can add to this, is when people ask others "what sounds better", you asking them what sounds better to their ears, possibly in their home, on their gear. Could be a total 180 to your ears. Opinions will vary and as always try and listen for yourself.

As an all around speaker easy on the ears, I always liked the 55's on good electronics. Add a good sub or 2 and your HT will surpass many others. My theory however, is to buy a music speaker first, and if it's asked to do HT it should do very well. The 55's are a HT speaker first. Budget and whats available to you always play into this, but keep this in the back of your mind when searching out speakers.....music first.

As a former owner of the 3000p's too, I can attest to that. Great HT speakers, but musically weren't hitting the mark for me either. Once you buy a music first type of speaker, you'll understand what you've been missing.
