Strange humming

I have a Polk 5000 IHC sound bar.

My issue comes from not being able to use my google chromecast to watch netflix from my iPad. When I cast to the tv the bluetooth doesn't work, or atleast the sound doesn't work. So therefor I am trying to use a 3.5mm from the tv headset output to the 2nd input of the soundbar. When I connect it the sound comes out but it's accompanied but a rather loud humming. Suggestions?

Seems like a very complicated way to watch TV.
