Gotta problem with my damn computer and thought maybe some of you guys might know what to do. Some how I ended up with a program/bug that keeps changing my homepage. I can find it, not that i'm really sure what to look for. Currently running WindowsXP Home Edition.

Anybody willing to take stab at it?

Give Mozilla a try its more secure and standards compliant than IE:

You know how to change it back, right? Tools; Internet Options; Homepage Address...

If something is actually changing it over and over again, I think I'd Start; All Programs; Accessories; System Tools; System Restore to a couple days prior to the onset of this problem.

    Two Channel Setup:

    Speakers: Wharfedale Opus 2-3
    Integrated Amp: Krell S-300i
    DAC: Arcam irDac
    Source: iMac
    Remote Control: iPad Mini

    3.2 Home Theater Setup:

    Fronts: Klipsch RP-160M
    Center: Klipsch RP-160M
    Subwoofer: SVS PB12NSD (X 2)
    AVR: Yamaha Aventage RX-A2030
    Blu Ray: Sony BDP-S790
    TV Source: DirecTV Genie

You might have 'spyware' in your system. Download Lavasoft Adaware. Run it and remove all the spyware ****.Click Here

Changing it back to the proper home page is no problem, but it doesn't stay that way. I've tried restoring but the problem is still there.

Adaware is the shizzy. I run it every couple weeks to clean up all the spyware, tracking cookies, etc.

    Even BETTER spyware removal....

    Spybot Search & Destroy

I have both Ad-Aware and Spybot

There's always debate as to whether Adaware or Spybot is the superior spyware removal software. I prefer AdAware because I've had several occasions where Spybot messed machines up after doing the scan. Ad-Aware is a professional-grade application with regular updates and a compresensive database.

Plus, if you purchase the next version up from the free one, you get AdWatch, which constantly scans your system for registry changes, popups, and other spyware-like activity.

Oh, and polkoholic.... take it easy, man.... he posted 2 minutes after you did, which means he prolly didn't see your original post until right after he posted his.....

I've been running it for over a year with no problems. I'll run Adaware (which is pretty good) and Spybot will find stuff it missed. Spybot can be upgragded on a regular basis. Currently has over 11,000 spyware programs it looks for.

I woke up the other day and my Adaware was folded over on the floor, and my Spybot had a smug look on his face.

The best tool I know of that can eliminate computer viruses and spyware, increase speed and stability, and allow the user to take control over his/her machince is called Linux -- or for the real freaks FreeBSD. :) btw, the easiest way to make Windows more secure is to eliminate IE and Outlook from regular use; simply replace these with Mozilla, or some other app of choice. IE is tied too closely to the kernel of the operating system for comfort -- a browser crash should not be able to take down the whole system!

I had tried AdAware in the past and it didn't fix the problem. Ona lark I downloaded it again (same as version!) and it seems to have done the job. Not sure why it didn't work before. Hopefully I won't have the same problem again.

    Thanks for the help folks.

    Frank,

Glad to see you got your problem fixed. Need to watchout for those popup windows that one can click yes to.

I had my homepage "hijacked" a couple of months ago. Ran Spybot and Adaware but it would change it back every time in the system registry on a fresh startup.

I ran a program called "hijack this" to search the registry and clean it up. Something one has to be very careful with.

Recently I downloaded an innocent looking program called "weatherbug" with gives you local temps and forcasts for your area. this was on a brand new friekin computer. Well, that program was adding spyware from all kinds of sites. After running Spybot on the first day I had like 80 spyware detections! Man was I pissed. No more freebie programs like that for me.

My ISP (AT&T) has a pop-up blocker that works extremely well so those aren't a problem for me. I would really like to find the Rat **** that created the problem that I had and kick his nuts up around his ears though!!

Mozilla has a popup blocker built in that works great. It also has tabbed browsing which is really cool! I encourage everyone to at least give it a try.
