Hey folks. I'm debating between the RTi4 or RTi6 in my home theater room that has a subwoofer. I'm not sure if the RTi6 is nessecary since the sub will handle the lows, but it may have more ouput so I'm not sure. The room is 21x12 with 7 foot ceilings. It will be used mostly for HT. So, can I get away with just getting the RTi4's as mains, or would the RTi6 be the better choice? Thanks!

Decent size room, I'd go bigger depending on that you're driving them with.

I've owned both the RTi4 and the RTi6, and I used them as mains at different times in my home theater system. My sub was a Polk Audio PSW 505. In my experience, the RTi6's dug deeper than the RTi4's. The midrange in the 4's was, at least to me, was slightly better than in the 6's. But, since you will be using the 4's or the 6's primarily for home theater, I'd go with the 6's, especially if you have a receiver that sounds bright, like the Yamaha RX V663 that I used.

I'll stir the pot a bit as well.

I started with RTi4s and did an upgrade to the RTiA3s (the next gen to the RTi6).

I did a write up comparison here a while back...(blows the dust off)

With a room that size, and if you like to listen to your movies at a high volume level, it would serve you well to use an external amp, if you a using a receiver with pre outs. One good choice would be the Parasound HCA 1205A. It is a 140W X 5 amp, and it can crank out up to 45 amps per channel, all channels driven. I have one, and I am very pleased with it. It can be found on Ebay for about $500, sometimes for as little as $350. Happy listening!! And, if you're looking for a good center to go with those 6's, get a Polk Audio CSiA4.

Thanks everyone for their thoughts. My receiver is the Denon 2112CI so I would assume this will provide plenty of power. I was thinking of avoiding the RTiA series and stick with the RTi to save some cash. So, I think the RTi6 and CSi5 would be the thing to get.

Just have to decide if I want to replace these with my Andrew Jones' Pioneer speakers or not. I hate these decisions.

Sounds like you already got some spot-on advise on these. I'd also go with the 6's, and as they are on sale on Polk Ebay for 199 a pair right now, I would jump all over those bad boys.

on the right track with the large center - that CSi5 is pretty nice for theater. I really enjoyed mine while I was using it.
    I disabled signatures.
  • I just recently purchased a set of RTi4s and a CSi3 center channel (all from Polk's Ebay Store), but my listening area (10'x12') is appreciably smaller than Butie120's. For my size room, the 4s are perfect and deliver the goods. For a room the size of Butie120's, I would definitely go with the 6s.
