Because I said honey I'm home hold the door for me would you dear, in I came with our new Onkyo TX-NR838. I thought for a minute she was gonna shut the door on me they way she rolled her eyes, my Sony wont arrive until Friday cant wait to set everything up. no time to unbox it tonight I already promised her dinner at Chili's and its $5 dollar movie night at the Cinema's she is picking out the movie. If I stayed and unpacked tonight she would be upset, but cant wait to get this up and running its a beast.

I say go on the date and keep the closeness with the Mrs(Just took mine to Chili's last weekend)....but enjoy the hell out of your purchase!

If I told you how little I paid for the defective TX-NR3008 that I repaired it would make your jaw drop. To offset the cost, I sold off another Onkyo that was defective and cheaply repaired by me. STILL...THE MRS. IS TALKIN' CRAP! It does not matter how little or how much you spend...if it is not on them, they will talk.

I tell my wife that I don't drink, smoke, do drugs, gamble, go out to eat or party often, etc. I also have rolled back spending on other hobbies...therefore I don't see the problem buying audio equipment. My modest system was ridiculously cheap...and I mean cheap! I will find a way to get some of the things I want and keep peace in the house. I'm not done...there SO much equipment out there!

Congrats on the new Onkyo, Steve, I'm excited for you!

FINALLY, everything is falling into place on your project there. Hope the synergy you were looking for is there.

Make sure to post some pics - along with your impressions - once you get things in place.

Even if I could afford the $8K Salks (And all that comes with that) I'm not sure she would "buy in" fully. Well.........I guess I don't know how she will react as I have yet to get to that $$$ level.

I bought a used pair in a veneer I loved, saved some coin.

To get you gotta give. I was saving up vouchers for all the stuff the wife got while my audio was stable for a few years. Then I cashed them all in; speakers and an amp. She even shared the drive to pick them up. She packed a nice lunch with snacks and drinks. Now I'm saving vouchers for a different pre amp...

Exactly how many pairs of shoes did that equate to ? LOL

You make a good point though. Buy used or demo's. When my Legacy's came out, with tax and an extra 500 for the finish, put them in the ball park of 7500. I knew I couldn't afford that but a few years later a demo pair shows up in the finish I liked, delivered to my door for 4k. Of course, like Rich, you have to bank those vouchers from the wife.

Depreciation on a lot of higher end stuff happens fairly quickly, let someone else eat it. You'd be surprised what you can afford.

After listening to a lot of AVRs about 6 months ago the TX-NR818 impressed me the most when I heard the 838 was coming a few months down the road I waited until they were available this is paired up with an Adcom 5503 so no lacking in power on the fronts and the rears and surrounds will get plenty of power from the 838.

Not quite complete with the project I ordered an AMP stand got the front stage squared away once that stand shows up and I wall mount my heights I will post pictures and a review on the Oinker what time I did spend with it I was impressed without the Adcom hooked up, and with it hooked up listened to some vinyl and CD 's and sounds real good to me, I liked my Denons, but this Onkyo is heads above them a few tweaks and I will give it all a serious listen.
