Was eyeballing one of these in VGC. Anyone have any experience with this AVR?

You really dont need the 500 unless your getting it for the same price as the 300. Great receiver thats well balanced in every way and sounds very close to the preamps. The ARC system that you get bundled with this is just mind blowing and does wonder for music and movies.

Hoo boy....
-
Seriously they are great for preamp duty but the receivers dont quite have enough power for blow the doors off levels.

I'm not really looking for that anymore. I want something that will pair well with the B&Ws. Was looking at Cambridge AVRs as well, but they are more than I can do right now. The Anthem has the latest codecs like the Pio, but am hoping it will be a bit more musical. -
I say go for it. The 300 was "way no better" than my previous oinkers.Where’s the KABOOM?!?! There’s supposed to be an Earth shattering KABOOM!!!

The Anthem is has a very detailed top end without being harsh or too warm. The bass on them is banging and you can do a separate ARC sweep for just music and save it.

Cool. Im willing to give it a shot if i can get it right. -
I have sold about 4 of the mrx 300's for $600 so far. I have 2 left and could let one go for $550.

I will kick that around, thank you. The bid is getting too high on the 500. Not really sure as of now as we need a new garage door. People coming out tomorrow, so gotta see what that is gonna set me back -

They're supposedly the most "musical" of all the AVR's.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

Good to know, thanks. PFB has made a generous offer. Thinking hard of taking him up on it. -
Just as a FYI because I was scoping these out myself... Anthem doesnt recommend these for 4 ohm speakers UNLESS you get the MRX-700. I emailed them some info on the LSi series speakers I have that included IIRC impedance curves (had the 25's but not 15's though) for a 5 channel set and they said it "should" work but you needed the better transformer in the MRX-700 or MRX-710.
Likely going with a Pio as a result because I want to try and get away from having a pre-amp and then amp for HT. That and using a AVR as a pre-amp is a waste of those amplification channels in the AVR, and Anthems pre's are outside my price range."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." Yup, luckily my bookies are 8 ohm. Would limit me if i wanted to change. I really like the cdms. They sound good with the pio, but thinking they could improve with a better avr -

Yup. I love my LSi's sound, but hate their amplification requirements ....."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963)
