A Changed Signature

This Audio adventure has led me down many roads. Roads in which I never imagined. As of late, I changed the two pieces; which, I figured would hold no major change. I was wrong.

If you didn't know, I have gathered certain pieces of gear in the past few weeks. The NAD 917, and the Denon DCM-280. Yes, this review is postponed, but my thoughts on this gigantic jump in sound quality must be thrown out.

This is my first real preamp. The Klipsch, after hearing the NAD; although, the Klipsch indeed did have similar traits in the mid, upper range with the NAD. Fact is, in the end. The Klipsch's candle holds nothing. The Pioneer Elite, its candle holds nothing. What I have owned before, and what I own now. The NAD is one in its own. The clearness, detail, refining sound it helps produce is simply jaw dropping to me in some ways.

The NAD is not alone in this tonal shift, I was not satisfied with the NAD for a while, then the Denon DCM-280, a beast of a cd player it is, came. This Denon shows so much clarity. The detail over my old Yamaha is surreal. The bass has more umph, more detail, more slam. The highs, so clean and refined, nothing like the Yamaha.

The tonal signature of my entire system has altered. It has gone from beat to beat, to detail. Something that takes much concentration and getting used to. Almost sterile. I have grown to like this new type of sound. The soundstage widened and deepened. Nothing about my system has remained the same; except, the speakers still say Polk Audio on the front of them.

My adventure is almost over, the next shift is the SVS PCi 22-31. This will be the completion. I hope that others such as myself that suffer from this hobby will also complete their system soon enough. This hobby has been a 3 year adventure for me, and it is now time to wrap it up.

Not a matter if I am or not...

I *have* to be done after the subwoofer. After that, I'm going to get my permit and start working and saving for a year. I hope to accomodate(sp) a good bit of money in the next year to prepare for car, etc etc.........

Just trying to not do what my sister did ;)

(She basically received her permit, drove for a year. Bought a car, then had no money for anything else...)

"NAD's are even better in pairs!"
-- Why this isn't a NAD marketing slogan, I have no idea.

Congrats on getting your system right where you like it. :)
