Thicker Rug Pad Improve Acoustics?

I am trying to tame some brightness in my family room and read online somewhere that using a 1/2" thick pad under an area rug instead of the typical 1/8" would help. The room in question has high ceilings and hardwood floors. Since it is the main room in our house, using panel treatments and bass traps etc. is not an option.

The rug is 10x13 and directly in front of my speakers.

Is this worth a try?

Why not some of the custom printed panels? You can really get anything you want, might be worth a shot to run by the wife.

Didn't realize you could get a custom print. I'll check that out. Thx Cody

Treating your first and second reflection points will decrease your treble incredibly. I've also treated the area directly behind my head. The benefit of treatments is that it not only tones down the brightness, it stabilizes and (in my case at least) widens your soundstage, improves imaging, and any changes you make in your system have a greater effect.

You got any hard evidence to back that up? What about blind tests? I mean, you know it could just be the placebo effect.
